Lamborghini Enters the World of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

After a series of social media posts that hint at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally announced its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. Space Key, developed by a non-publicized artist and based upon advanced carbon fiber composite materials that were sent to the International Space Station as research material, is a new project which was announced by Lamborghini.

The product was developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm).

The physical piece has an NFT serial number that is linked to the digital image via QR code printed on the back.

The physical element of Space Key

The digital artwork

Each Space Key contains a block comprised of the most advanced carbon-fire composite material. It was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research program. After returning to Earth the block was engraved with QR codes that connect to the digital element in the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that occurs only seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. More than 600 million pixels up each of the five images, which were shot by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used a balloon with a camera to take each of the individual shots which were then merged into the final image. The result is an image that is out of this world. It captures the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic image of a car rising away from the Earth. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned off soon, but there isn't a specific date or time yet.

The auction
