Heyer did an excellent job of contrasting Leonie's boyish ways with Avon's coolness, and reserve. Her impulsive physical responses and blood-thirstiness are in stark contrast to his calm, composed manner. I also appreciated how he was able to defeat the villain without threat him or chasing him. Instead, he relied on insinuation.

Another thing that I really enjoyed about this book was the way Heyer subtly pointed out limitations of women's lives during this time period. It was a bit challenging to keep track at first, because Heyer calls the Duke by various names on the initial pages. Once you have it figured out, it becomes easier to read. This was a fantastic book, and I strongly recommend it! You won't be let down regardless of whether you're a Georgette Heyer lover or simply enjoy a good romance!
