1. iRobot 11S

The 11S is a cheaper self-emptying robotic vacuum cleaner that lots of people seem to like. It's also capable of scheduling and executing spot-cleaning sessions. It performed well in the standard tests, but couldn't match the iRobot Roomba j7+ for the carpet deep cleaning test.

You can program the S7 by using the companion app to run a cleaning routine in accordance with your schedule. You can select an option for cleaning like eco or automatic, and a weekday, day or even a time. You can also select whether the robot will stop if it runs out of power or comes across an obstacle.

If you don't have a smartphone however, you can still utilize the S7 by connecting a remote control to the dock that charges it. It also has more advanced technology for automation, such as areas that are not accessible and the ability to select specific rooms to be cleaned.

iRobot j7+

This robot vacuum and mop combo is a rare beast that can do both tasks well. iRobot Combo j7+ has all the smarts and features of its j7 equivalent, including LiDAR maps and self-emptying. But it also offers additional features for vacuuming and mopping.

The j7+ performed well in our tests on carpeted and hard floors, removing most of the dirt that we threw at it. It isn't able to deal with pet hair, large debris and sand. But it is able to clean them with a little more effort. It also has good navigation abilities and a set of cliff sensors to keep it from falling down the stairs or stumbling on furniture legs.

The j7+ has a few small flaws, namely that it can be stuck on cords or rugs and doesn't always switch off the mopping function when it is done vacuuming. Overall, this is an excellent model that ticks all the right boxes.

The j7+ from iRobot also is one of the Best Self-Emptying Vacuum self-emptying systems we've seen. It spits out its 14oz / 0.4-liter dust canister into the base station, where it will automatically empty itself for you. This helps reduce the amount of trash you need to get rid of. It is only necessary to change the dust disposal bag on the dock every 60 days, based on the frequency you use the j7+.
