Window Sash Repairs

Window sashes must be regularly checked for mold, mildew and damage. You can avoid the cost of repairs in the future by catching these issues in the early stages, before they become out of control.

The sash is the interior frame that is vertically moved up or down in windows that open. This article will teach you how to carry out a few simple sash repair.

Weather Stripping

Wooden window sashes can add a classic look to your home. They are also durable and last for a long time if they are properly maintained. However, they may become damaged or degrade as time passes due to exposure to elements and wear and tear. The first step for repair sash windows is to address weather stripping. It's found on both the sash and frame. If it's damaged or worn out, it can cause drafts and other issues. Start by identifying the window brand and the manufacturer's date (etched on the glass's corner or the aluminum spacers between panes). Remove the sash, and mark its width and height so that you can get replacement weather stripping that matches.

Then, remove the sash from the holder and place it on an even surface that allows you to see all four sides. Sash Weights

Sash weights can be changed to improve the performance of your window sash and reduce energy costs. Sash weights are heavy, lead or iron cylinders that are enclosed in a hidden cavity and linked to the moveable the sash with rope. They are counterbalancers, allowing the window to be closed and opened without the need for mechanical or electrical devices. The sash-weights are typically ignored or discarded by homeowners, and are turned into scrap when they fail; therefore you may have to search for replacements.
