The ear cups of the WH-1000XM5 feature touchscreen-sensitive gesture controls on the right that can be used to play, pause and change tracks. You can adjust ANC and switch to an "aware" setting that allows ambient sounds to be heard. However, you can't remove the audio.

The headsets are still an excellent choice for anyone who is seeking a pair of high-end headphones to wear in trains or on a plane or at home while working. They have a long-lasting battery, excellent noise cancellation, and clear audio. They also feature multipoint Bluetooth which allows them to pair to two devices at once and switch between them with the press of one button. They also have a dedicated application, which isn't as customizable as other models, but has plenty of useful features.

The QC45s come with a highly efficient active noise cancellation mode. In my tests it could be slightly loud at times. The phones do not have microphones, but they do have an audio response provided by Google Assistant. Their mics can also be used to filter out background noise when you're calling.

The battery is expected to last for up to 20 hours for most people. The USB cable is included to charge your phone.
