In our testing it was able to avoid getting stuck on power cords, long curtains, small and even dog toys. It's not perfect but it occasionally ran into things like tangled wires, the odd book or toy.

You can control the S7 Max Ultra via its smartphone application, and this is where you'll find all the sophisticated features that set it apart from other robotic vacuums and mops. There are also specific room mopping and cleaning options as well as a schedule planner and power strength selections for vacuuming and mopping. It is also possible to integrate the S7 Max Ultra with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa to create a smart home. The extensive features set means the S7 Max Ultra can do almost anything a standard robot vacuum does, but at a fraction of the cost.

The S7 Max Ultra vacuuming is impressive. It did a great job at removing pet fur, dirt and other debris on carpet and hard floors. The automatic dustbin emptying feature was flawless during our tests. This was comforting. It also boasts 5100 Pa HyperForce power, which is significantly higher than the 2,500Pa of the S6MaxV and S7.

The S7 Max Ultra's mopping capabilities was good too, although not the best we've seen. It utilized the special microfiber mop pad that sucks up liquids and uses sonic vibration technology to scrub floors up to 3000 times per minute, which is a bit quicker than the X1 Omni's circular pads, which spin at 180 revolutions per minute. The S7 Max Ultra's ReactiveAI 2.0 obstacle recognition system was extremely good. During our testing, it didn't get stuck on any object and it steered clear of power cords or long curtains as well as other obstacles of the time.

2. Narwal Freo

Cleaning your floors and vacuuming is one of those chores that we all hate, but are essential for maintaining a tidy home. The Narwal Freo, the newest model in the robotic cleaners, comes with a number of improvements in sensors, software and hardware that are designed to keep it on top of its game. The patented DirtSense Technology and the Smart-Swing feature both work together to better recognize the surface being cleaned and then automatically alter the cleaning mode based on the type of floor. The Freo also registers dirtiness levels and automatically cleans its mops once they are full, which increases the effectiveness of subsequent cleaning sessions by preventing returning to areas that are soiled.

Another major improvement that the Freo has over its predecessor is the capability to direct control it using an LCD touchscreen on its base station in addition to using the smartphone app. This is a first in a robot vacuum and mop combination and is definitely a welcomed option if you'd like to skip the hassle of using the app. You can even adjust the route during the session by using the LCD screen controls.

The Narwal Freo is also quiet when it is in suction mode, with a noise level of only 63dB. The Freo's maintenance isn't entirely hands-free, however. It is necessary to clean the primary brush roll and the side brushes periodically.

3. Ecovacs Deebot t9+

The Ecovacs Deebot T9+ is available at The Good Guys (for $1279) and is one of the most advanced self-emptying robot mop and vacuum combinations. It can map your home, cleaning and mopping, as well as detecting and avoiding obstacles. It can even spray an air freshener.

It is easy to set up, using the app to build an accurate map of your home, which it uses while cleaning. Then, you can utilize the app to pick certain rooms or specific areas to clean. You can also choose the time that you want to start cleaning so that your floors get cleaned even when you're asleep or away.

In our tests during our tests, the T9+ was very impressive in its ability to navigate obstacles. However, it has the tendency to take slightly manic routes around the house, which often resulted in it ending up back at the same place it had started cleaning just a few minutes earlier. It didn't happen very often however enough to warrant being noticed.

The T9+ also comes with an upgraded 3000Pa vacuum motor that delivers powerful suction for a more effective clean.

4. iRobot Combo j7+

The iRobot Combo j7+ robot is a great option for cleaning floors. It's a mop and a vacuum all in one and it has both excellent obstacle avoidance and home navigation. It can map your house and clean areas, without crashing into furniture or walls. The app allows you to define zones to indicate areas that must be cleaned and those that you don't want to be cleaned. You can also establish boundaries for no-mop and no-sweep zones.

IRobot's iAdapt 2.0 technology is a big component of what makes the Combo J7+ so intelligent. This is a front camera that sits atop most of its robots to identify dangers, such as pet waste or power cords and to avoid them. iAdapt 2.0 also allows the Combo j7+ robot to identify dirt levels, and focus more on the areas.

When the Combo j7+ detects that it's on a surface that needs to be mopped and a small robot arm that has a mop pad lifts up from under the vacuum. Then, it mops the floor until it is aware that the mopping pads are dry, which only takes about 90 minutes.

The Combo j7+ can also sense carpeting, which is great for homes that have the combination of hard floors and carpets. It doesn't try to push through the rug, though it will instead turn away if it thinks it won't be able to get over the area without damaging it or the carpet.

I found it easy to control the Combo j7+ from the mobile app, which is very user-friendly and well-designed. It works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa so you can begin cleaning with a voice. The only downside I found was that the Combo j7+'s smaller water tank means you have to replenish it frequently, or else limit its mopping to smaller areas, and use eco-mode more frequently.

Another issue is that the Combo J7+'s dust container is small, and you have to empty it manually. I also found the Combo j7+'s mop pads to be less efficient than other brands, which is a shame because it's an otherwise excellent combination robot.
