We've seen this technology in action and it does a great job of moving around toys that are placed on the floor, or furniture legs that are sticking out of the ground. It also has a sensor that will snap Roomba back to reality when it starts to wander away from its initial location.

iRobot also added a set of rollers underneath the Roomba that do not have bristles and are therefore more likely to withstand knots than earlier models. They're also a bit higher than the older rollers and can better fit under beds and couches that are low and are designed to help this model navigate more easily on varying flooring types.

The Roomba 980 differs from other models of high-end quality by its brand new dirt detection feature, which uses cameras to detect embedded dirt. After you have removed the pull tab for the battery and the yellow bin insert from its undercarriage, all you have to do is plug it into its Home Base docking station or an outlet on the wall, press its large "Clean" button, and let it get to work. It will return to its dock when the battery runs out or is full of debris. It also has indicators at the top of the device to indicate that its bin is full, it needs to be recharged or if its Wi-Fi signal is lost.
