What to Do With Your Rep Kit

Rep avon kits are an excellent method of fixing your equipment until you are able to get to the trailhead and have it fixed professionally. The challenge is knowing what to do with it when you require it.

The long-term use of home repaired dentures could lead to rapid bone loss, ongoing irritation, and sores and tumors.

Tools

It is important to have the right tools at hand when you are out in the field. This kit was developed with this in mind, and contains all of the essential hand tools needed to repair equipment in the field. The tools are made of metal with only a small amount of plastic to ensure they will stand up to use. The kit comes with an afghan-like pouch with zippered for the coalcracker tools, as well as a twist awl, reamer cutting shears and gimlets (5MM). It also comes with a bottle of coalcracker oil, illustrated directions, a wooden spool, the reamer and the twisted an awl.

Repair Patches

If you've a hole or two in your gear, consider adding adhesive patches to your rep kit. These patches made of heavy-duty materials have high-performance glue that is applied to a durable polyurethane back that allows a tear under pressure to heal. The patches are available in color or clear versions. They are durable against punctures as well as sunlight, water and extreme temperatures.

If your kit does not include one of the items mentioned above You may want to consider adding a waterproof Aquaseal wader sealant. This glue that is water-tight will adhere to fabrics, plastics, metals, and more for permanent repair. This is great for repairing drysuits and also used in the field. Let the sealant sit for up to 12 hours to dry before utilizing the repaired equipment.

The essential field fabric kit for packs, tents and rep kit rainwear made of silicone-impregnated nylon. The kit comes with one Clean Tape patch and a sil-nylon repair sample and a 1/4 ounce tube of Goretex Silfix repair adhesive and sealant as well as a brush. To use, apply patch over clean, smooth surface of the area that has been damaged with at least 1/2 inch overlap. Remove release paper from patch surface and rub adhesive using moderate pressure (adhesive side up).

Surface preparation is essential for a successful repair; oils on shoes or boots sunblocks, or solvents such as Acetone could affect adhesion. Use Seam Grip with Cotol 240 Cure Accelerator to get the best results.

Adhesive patches

If you're out on the trail and aren't able to do complete vulcanising repairs, these adhesive patches will allow you to get back in the saddle without the wait. Apply the self-adhesive patch then roll it over.

Clean up the area that has been punctured and then apply the tube-scuffer, or sandpaper to roughen the surface, which assists in making glue stick. Spread a thin layer of glue on the patch. Cover an area that is at least as big as the patch. Wait for the glue to become tacky and then press the patch in firmly and secure it.

The kit contains two adhesive-backed, clear Tenacious Tape fabric repair patches. It also comes with one quarter ounce of Seam Grip urethane sealant and repair adhesive. Perfect for reinforcing damaged sleeping bags, rainwear and backpacks.
