The iRobot Roomba 980, the most recent in a line of top-of the-line mopping robot vacuum cleaner vacuums, is a must for every modern home. This model is incredibly powerful suction as well as an HEPA filter that can help anyone concerned about allergies. It also comes with a large battery that can be cleaned for up to two hours before returning to its dock automatically when the bin is full.

Smart mapping is another feature that allows it to identify areas of your home that require attention, and then creates a cleaning path to get around them. Roomba also has a sensor that snaps Roomba to reality if it starts to drift away from its initial location.

iRobot also added an additional set of rollers beneath the Roomba that don't have bristles, which makes them more likely to avoid the tangles that previous models. They're also a bit taller than older rollers and are able to fit under low couches and beds, and they're designed to help this model navigate more easily across a variety of flooring kinds.

What sets the Roomba 980 apart from other models of this class Its main feature is the integration of the new dirt detection feature, which uses cameras to identify particles of dirt embedded. This is a great improvement over the previous version which relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage method to bounce around the room and clean it at minimum three times from various angles.

The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on carpets and hard floors. Its score on the low pile carpet was very good and it also scored a excellent score on mid pile too. It did a good job of removing pet hair, but it struggled with very thick and long pet fur that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the most efficient robots we've reviewed despite the slight limitations. It's also not as expensive as top-of the-line models. It has a lot of features we would expect from a top model, but doesn't come with all the fancy apps and smart home integrations you'll find in other top contenders.

The iRobot Roomba is easy to set up and get working immediately. After taking off the pull tab for the battery and the yellow bin insert from undercarriage, all you have to do is plug it into its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, hit its big "Clean" button and let it go to work. It will automatically return to the dock when it runs out of batteries or is full of debris. There are also indicator lights at the top of the bin that let you know the bin is empty, or when it needs to recharge, or if it loses Wi-Fi.
