What to Do With Your Rep Kit

Rep kits are an excellent way to fix your gear until you reach the trailhead to have it repaired professionally. The most important thing is welcome to avon know when to do when you need it.

It is essential to have the proper tools on to hand when out in the field. This kit was created with this in mind and contains all of the basic hand tools needed to repair equipment in the field. Repair Patches

If you've got holes or two in your gear, you might want to consider adding some adhesive patches to your rep kit. These patches made of heavy-duty materials have high-performance glue pre-applied on a tough polyurethane back which allows a tear to heal. These patches are available in colors or clear versions and provide durability against punctures as well as sun, moisture, saltwater and temperature extremes.

If your kit isn't stocked with any of the above items, think about adding a bag of waterproof Aquaseal wader repair sealant. This water-tight glue will adhere to metals and fabrics to provide an indestructible fix. This is great for repairing drysuits, and can be utilized in the field. Allow the sealant to cure for at least 12 hours prior to using your repaired gear.

The essential field fabric kit for packs, tents and rainwear made from silicone-impregnated nylon. The kit comes with one Clean Tape patch and a sil nylon repair swatch as well as a 1/4 ounce tube of Gore-Tex Silfix repair adhesive & sealant and brush. Apply patch to clean smooth surface. There should be a minimum of 1/2 inch overlap. Remove the release paper, and rub adhesive side down using a moderate amount of pressure.

Surface preparation is essential to successful repairs. Sunblock, acetone, or oil on boots and shoes can alter adhesion. For best results, use Seam Grip alone or with Cotol-240 Cure Accelerator to speed up curing time up to two hours.

Adhesive patches

If you're out on the trail but don't have the time for Rep kit a full vulcanising repair this adhesive patch can get you back on the saddle with no hassle. Simply roughen the tube using the included scraper, apply one of the self-adhesive patches, and roll on.

Thoroughly clean the punctured area and then apply the tube-scuffer, or sandpaper to roughen the surface, which helps glue stick. Spread a thin layer over the patch. Cover an area which is at the very least big as the patch. Wait for the glue to become tacky and then apply the patch with force and secure it.

This kit includes two clear, adhesive-backed Tenacious Tape fabric repair patches. It also comes with a 1/4 ounce Seam Grip urethane sealant and repair adhesive. Perfect for reinforcing damaged sleeping bags, rainwear and backpacks.
