Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers are enthralled by the remote control features of their key fob. They can lock and unlock their vehicle or start the motor and even locate it via an app for smartphones.

Place the key fob's face up on an uncluttered surface. Locate the button that releases it, then wedge a coin between the fob and the cover and pull it up gently.

Unlocking the Door

Volvo's remote key fobs can unlock the doors, tailgate, and flap for filling up the fuel in your car with the touch of one button. The remote key fobs can also switch on the ignition and trigger the alarm. They can even operate the sunroof, if it is equipped. With these features you won't have to fumble for your keys or lock yourself out of your car again.

If you have a new Volvo model from our dealership, then you may be unaware of some of its key fob's hidden features. You can make use of the lock/unlock feature manual if the battery in your key fob fails.

To press the manual lock/unlock button Hold your key fob with the Volvo logo side up. Locate the black button that is located near the edges of the body of your key fob and press it gently to unlock a cover that hides the manual key blade. You will need a flathead screwdriver or coin to flip the cover counterclockwise so that the arrow is aligned with "open."

The Engine is Ready to Start

Modern Volvo key fobs provide a level of convenience and function that is unmatched by traditional manual keys. However, just like any battery-powered electronic device key fobs can lose its charge or stop working over time. If you've noticed that your key fob has become less responsive to pressing the lock or unlock buttons, that's a good sign that it's in need of a new battery.

You can enable this feature by using the key fob if your vehicle has a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The vehicle will then cool or heat to the exact temperature it was set to when it was parked, and will operate for up to 15 minutes.

Remove the cover on the back of the key fob using your fingernail. A button is located under the cover at an angle, close to the edge of the body. Remove it by sliding it downwards, then to the right. The cover will then fall open and slide off leaving the manual key blade inside! If you're still having trouble finding the button, search around the newly revealed manual key access to see whether there is a hidden slot or lever.

Close the Windows

One of the hidden features that is not visible on Volvo key fobs is that you can roll down all of the windows immediately using the fobs. This is great when you're trying to squeeze into a tight parking spot, or even simply when you want to get some fresh air inside the cabin while driving.

To unlock the windows do this, press and hold down the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof, if you have one. Then, when you're done with your car you can shut the doors by pressing the lock button for four seconds.

You can also set off the panic alarm inside your car with the key fob. This will emit an intense, enthralling roar that can scare off thieves and allow you to return home safe after a long night out. This feature comes in handy if you are living in a hazardous area or want to secure your family members while they are away.

Opening the Tailgate

Volvo has packed its key fobs with a many useful features. These are perfect when you're working on shopping or helping your kids pack their sports equipment after practice.

For instance, if have the available Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped), fobs you can open it using the key fob. Simply press the button open it and then press the same button to close it when you're done.

When you're in the mood to start your car Use the key fob to push the START button (and don't fret about the battery dying or your car not starting since it has a backup key mechanical slot as well). This is just one of the many tips that will benefit your brand new Volvo.

Turning Off the Alarm

Modern key fobs provide many advantages over a traditional mechanical car key. However, they don't work in a perfect way for a long time, and their batteries will eventually fail. You can program your key fob at home if are in a hurry or don't have the time to go to the store.

Set out your key fobs batteries, keys, and other keys on a clean surface. Locate the small black button located at the bottom left corner on the key fob and move it to the right. The cover will begin to loosen and fall off and reveal the mechanical key blade underneath.

Press the button to unlock the key fob twice quickly, and you will be able opening all the doors, as well as the tailgate. By pressing the lock button for two seconds, you will be able to close the windows and shut the sunroof if they are equipped. Connect the battery and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't, the owners manual should have a way to reset the alarm.
