What to Do With Your Rep Kit

Rep kits are a great way to fix your gear until you reach the trailhead to have it repaired professionally. The challenge is knowing what to do with it if you ever need it.

Long-term use of repaired dentures may lead to more bone loss, causing irritation and sores as well as tumors and Repsrus sores.

Tools

Having the right tools available is essential when working out in the field. This kit is designed with that in mind. It includes all the hand tools required to repair things in the field. The tools are made of metal and have minimal plastic so they can endure the use. The kit comes complete with the coalcracker tool, a canvas zippered pouch with awl, reamer, twisted cutting shears and gimlet (5MM), sinue spools made of wood, an oil bottle for the coalcracker tool oil and a set of illustrated instructions.

Repair Patches

If you've got holes or two in your gear, you might want to consider adding adhesive patches to your rep kit. These tough patches feature a high-performance glue pre-applied on a rugged polyurethane back that lets a tear that is triggered by pressure to heal. The patches are available in color or clear versions. They offer durability against punctures, as well as moisture, sunlight and extreme temperatures.

If your kit doesn't include any of the above items, you may want to consider adding a water-proof Aquaseal wader sealant. This water-tight adhesive will stick to fabrics, plastics, metals and more to provide an unbreakable fix. This glue is ideal for fixing drysuits and can also be used in the field. It can take up to 12 hours to dry before you can use the repaired equipment.

The essential field fabric kit for packs, tents and rainwear made of silicone-impregnated polyester. The kit comes with one Clean Tape repair patch and a sil-nylon swatch. Also included is a 1/4-ounce Gore-Tex Sealant & Repair Adhesive & Sealant tube and brush. To apply the patch, place it over clean, smooth surface of the damaged area, with a minimum of 1/2 inch overlap. Remove the release paper, and rub the adhesive side down using a moderate amount of pressure.

Surface preparation is essential for successful repairs; oils on boots or shoes sunblocks or solvents like acetone can impact adhesion. Use Seam Grip with Cotol 240 Cure Accelerator to achieve the best results.

Adhesive patches

These patches are great for those who don't want to stay in the waiting room until they can get back on the trail. Apply the self-adhesive patch and roll it over.

Thoroughly clean the punctured area Then use the tube-scuffer or sandpaper to roughen the surface which aids in gluing. Then, repsrus spread a thin layer of glue on the patch and cover an area at least as large as the patch itself. Let the glue get tacky, then press the patch in firmly and secure it.

This kit includes two adhesive-backed, clear Tenacious Tape fabric repair patches. It also includes the 1/4 ounce Seam Grip urethane sealant and Repsrus repair adhesive. Ideal for strengthening damaged sleeping bags, rainwear, and packs.
