In addition to its ability to manage grocery and entertainment, Family Hub also acts as controller for Samsung's SmartThings platform. It can onboard Matter-compatible devices like lights and plugs and can be used with the touchscreen to control them as well.

Samsung's refrigerator is a few years old, and, although it still has plenty of features but its touchscreen features aren't something that majority of people would consider essential. These are more of a fun, semi-frivolous feature than anything else.

It could change when more software updates are made available, but for now these models are ideally for those looking for the most comprehensive connected fridge they can get. You could save money by purchasing a model that does not include the Family Hub if you're not one of these people.
