The touchscreen allows you to manage your food and recipes. You can add ingredients directly through an app and view the contents of your fridge with internal cameras. You can create a grocery list on the go and track foods to track their expiration date. You can also use a dedicated recipe app that will provide instructions while you cook.

Samsung has spent an entire year reworking the Family Hub fridges based on feedback from customers. One major change is that you can now create different profiles for each member of your household so they can personalise the apps and information they can access. It's still not quite as great as having Alexa integration built into your refrigerator but it's an improvement over last year's model.

In addition to its features for entertainment and grocery management, Family Hub also acts as controller for Samsung's SmartThings platform. It can onboard Matter-compatible devices, such as lights or plugs, and you can use the touchscreen to control them as well.

Samsung's fridge has been in use for a few years now and, although it has a lot of functionality, the touchscreen smarts don't really stand out as an essential feature for the majority of people. They're more fun and semi-frivolous accessories than any other feature.

That might change as more software updates are made available, but for now these models are best for those who need the most complete connected fridge that is possible. If you aren't one of them, you can always choose a lower-cost model that doesn't have the Family Hub to save some cash. It could be worth it for you in the event that you own a lot of smart home appliances that need to be controlled by the same device, or if you like the idea of an appliance with a massive touchscreen.
