The iRobot Roomba 980, the latest in a series of top-of the-line robot vacuums, is an essential for every modern home. This model comes with a HEPA-filter to assist those who suffer from allergies. In addition it also comes with a powerful battery which can clean for up to two hours and it will automatically return to its dock when its bin is full.

It also has a feature called smart mapping that uses multiple sensors to help it suss out the areas of your home that require attention and robotvacuummops create a cleaning path around them. This technology is very effective at navigating around toys that have been left on the floor or furniture legs that are sticking out from underneath objects. Roomba also has a sensor that snaps Roomba to its real-world location if it starts to drift away from its original location.

iRobot has also introduced a new set of rollers beneath the Roomba's bottom that don't have bristles and therefore tend to be more resistant to tangles than previous models. They are also taller and can be tucked under beds or couches with low sides. They're specifically designed to make this model more adaptable to different kinds of floors.

What makes the Roomba 980 stand out from other models with a higher-end price tag however, is its integration of the new dirt detection feature, which uses cameras to detect bits of embedded dirt. This is a significant improvement over the previous model, which relied on a sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage method to bounce around a room and clean everything at minimum three times from various angles.

In our tests of its performance it was found that the Roomba 980 did well on carpets and hard flooring. Its score on low pile carpet was excellent and it got a very excellent score on mid pile too. It did a decent job of picking up pet hair, but it had a difficult time with extremely thick and long pet fur that was clumped together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the top performing robots we've reviewed despite the slight limitations. It's also not as expensive as top-of-the-line models. It still has a lot of features that we'd like to find in a flagship model, robotvacuummops but it doesn't have all the fancy app-enabled functions or smart home integration that you'll find in other top contenders.

The iRobot Roomba can be set up quickly and is ready to use immediately. After taking off the pull tab for the battery and yellow bin insert from undercarriage, all that you need to do is plug it into its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, hit its big "Clean" button and let it go to work. It will automatically return to its dock when it is running out of battery or becomes full of debris. There are also indicators on top that show when its bin is empty, when it is in need of recharging or when it loses its Wi-Fi.
