The Ghost uses the data bus CAN to communicate with your vehicle. This prevents thieves from putting in a new key or even replacing the ECU to bypass your security system as it requires a valid PIN code to begin the engine.

It is designed to stop thieves from adding an ignition key or replacing the ECU to start your vehicle and drive off. Ghost is connected to your CAN network and utilizes buttons on your vehicle to create a unique push-sequence that must be entered before the engine can be started.

If the anti-hijacking mode has been activated and the engine is restarted, any attempt to restart the engine will be blocked. The system will sharpen the horn and flash the indicators. It will also stop the vehicle if the code is not found. By entering your push sequence or entering service mode, you can deactivate the Anti-Hijack function. This allows your vehicle to be temporarily started without having to enter a PIN.

If you own an GPS device that is connected to your BMW it could be used to disable the Anti-Hijack feature, allowing you to still use the navigation system inside your car whilst the vehicle is parked not being watched. You can also use your smartphone to control the anti theft feature and other functions.

The system lets you start the vehicle, select drive and exit the service mode without having to use your key fobs. You can also view your vehicle in real-time on a map on your smartphone, perfect for tracking your car whilst moving around.

The Ghost can be installed in the dashboard area, or in the centre console. It is completely concealed and tamper-proof. It doesn't require any additional wiring. The device is connected to CAN Data Network of the vehicle (similar to Ethernet cable) and a personal pin code is inserted into it. The pin code must be chosen before the engine starts. This prevents thieves from bypassing the system by using an unauthorized clone or replacement ECU.

If the vehicle is stolen in any way, the Ghost will enter a service mode and disables all functions unless the PIN code is entered, or you utilize the mobile app to disable it. The device is installed in the key-fob of your vehicle and disconnects its battery after a couple of inactive minutes. This is possible using the most modern PKE keys.
