Many have advanced features like mapping, which helps them navigate your home and recall furniture place. They also can increase suction power to take on dirtier surfaces.

iRobot Roomba 694

The Roomba by iRobot is a budget-friendly robot vacuum that is effective on both plain flooring and low-pile floor carpet. It has good suction and cleans up most debris, though it has trouble with larger particles like rice or sand. It does a good job cleaning pet hair but isn't as resistant to tangling as premium Roomba models like the j7 and I6.

The Roomba 694 is easy to use. It has three buttons on its top cover: 'Clean' starts a cleaning cycle and 'Dock' places it back in its charging station, and 'Spot Clean' initiates the targeted cleaning. It can be controlled with a smartphone app that lets you schedule and stop/start cycles, as well as alter settings. You can also connect it with smart home devices like Alexa or Google Assistant for voice-controlled operation.

This vacuum is slower than other models, but it's still able to reach the majority of crevices and corners. It has a big bin that makes it easy to empty. It is also effective at cleaning dirt and debris that are embedded in the middle of the pile carpet. The IQ's compact footprint for docks and the self-emptying feature are nice touches. However, if you want to alter the floor level on the map or create no-go zones you'll have to manually reset it in order to do this, which can be somewhat of a hassle.

The IQ's application has advanced mapping and automation features however, it's not able to access no-go zones, which are available on iRobot models. The smart-pathing navigation system provides superior maneuverability and its high-pile carpet mode cleans well, though it does have a tendency to get caught up in rug tassels. Its iHome speaker lets you operate the robot by voice commands.

During our tests, the IQ was capable of handling pet hair with ease, removing huge amounts of debris from bare floors and fair amounts of medium-pile carpet. It was less efficient with shag carpets. It struggled to get at dirt and dust embedded within the fibers. It was capable of maneuvering around the legs of chairs, tight spaces, and the wooden base of an IKEA step stool. It was slower on bare flooring however, it was able to recover speed and did better than other robots that we evaluated.

The IQ is a better choice than the iRobot Roomba 694 for most applications. It has a larger dustbin and a longer battery life, and is better in navigating around obstacles. It also has mopping attachments that can deal with sticky debris. On the other hand, the iRobot is more durable, has fewer parts that require replacement or maintenance and has lower recurring costs and creates virtual no-go zones with its companion app. It can even resume a cleaning session from where it left off in case it is unable to recharge its battery prior to it has completed the task. The iRobot can be controlled by voice commands, which is a major benefit for many users.

Eufy 11S

The RoboVac 11S robotic vacuum isn't among the most advanced models, but it provides powerful cleaning power at affordable prices. It's designed for budget-conscious buyers who don't require a complicated mapping system or app to control the device. The eufy11S was successful in our tests of removing larger debris and fine dust from hard floors. However, it struggled to provide medium and high pile carpeting an effective deep clean. The device is also prone to smack into furniture and people that are in its path however, it's able detect these obstacles using sensors. It ceases and emits a loud noise when it comes across an obstacle. Then, you can manually guide the device around it to get it to work again.

The BoostIQ mode is another fantastic feature of the eufy11S. It lets you set up the robot to automatically adjust suction strength based upon the floor type and the level of mess. It's also easy to use the remote to direct the 11S where you want it to move.

If you don't have many furniture in the space where you'd like to vacuum, Single Room Mode is an excellent alternative. The eufy will spend 30 minutes cleaning the area that it is assigned to.
