Nespresso Coffee Machines

Unlike drip coffee makers, Nespresso models are small and compact. They're black in color and range in terms of price and complexity. Some include a milk frother that can be used to create Latte art, and they can be linked with an app to manage recipes or receive descaling notifications.

The simplest machines, like our favorite, the Essenza Mini, are simple and inexpensive, but they do not have features that make more complicated drinks. Other machines can also make larger drink sizes like gran lungos.

What is an Nespresso Machine?

The Lattissima Line

This series of machines is ideal for those who like milky coffee drinks like lattes and cappuccinos, and want one machine that can handle it all. It offers three customizable one-touch recipes, and its 4.2-ounce milk container is dishwasher-safe and dishwasher-safe. It's also light, making it easy to transport and store in a compact space. However, some customers say it's not as easy to use as other Nespresso models.

These two models also have a faster heating time (as as little as 15 seconds for espresso and 25 seconds for lungo) and have an enhanced hot water function to make tea or iced coffee.

The only real disadvantage of the Lattissima line is the difficulty in altering the consistency of the milk foam. The machine can only be used with skim milk (sorry vegans and those who are lactose intolerant), and the foaming system doesn't work well with almond or vegetable milks. The wand for frothing is difficult to clean. This is a typical complaint from Nespresso users. Fortunately the Lattissima Pro and Gran Lattissima come with a self-cleaning system which cleans the milky intestines after every use of the frother.

The Vertuo Line

The Nespresso Vertuo makes a small but concentrated cup of coffee. It's the perfect choice for those who love espresso. The machine reads the barcode on the outer rim of each capsule to determine the amount of coffee it should make. Nespresso utilizes an innovative extraction process to ensure you get the most flavor from each Vertuo pod.

The Vertuo Line offers a wide range of different drinks, including Ristretto (mini espresso), Espresso, Lungo, Americano and Cappuccino. The machines also are compatible with the nespresso mini coffee machine Aeroccino milk frother to create frothy lattes and cappuccinos.

Each Vertuo Line coffee machine heats quickly and is ready to brew in less than 30 seconds. They have a smaller reservoir of water than the Original Line and require less maintenance. There are a myriad of models to choose from, so you can choose one that is compatible with your design and budget.

It can make five different sizes of espresso and coffee including a ristretto espresso, lungo and flat white. It can also make an espresso-latte, and it can be used in conjunction with the Aeroccino Milk Frother for the creation of lattes or cappuccino.

The VertuoPlus has one drawback, which is that it takes longer to brew compared to other machines, specifically when making an Americano. Comparing the Bunn Fastbrew to the Nespresso VertuoPlus which can make an 8-ounce Americano within 42 seconds, the VertuoPlus took 1 minute, 51 seconds.
