It is important to consider the weight and age of the stroller when selecting one. Most single-seat strollers that are lightweight are made for children weighing up to 55 pounds. Most of them do not have room for infant car seats. Some models do have the option of incorporating an infant bassinet-style seat for babies who can't sit upright. For a compact stroller that's also a good choice for travel then look no further than the Silver Cross Jet 4. It folds into a compact package and rolled up like an ordinary suitcase to fit into most overhead bins on airplanes. The stroller can be sat on with an adjustable strap or handle, making it a great choice for long walks. The Jet 4 stroller is on the expensive side, but it comes with many features that are suitable for parents. It has a wide recline, UPF 50+ canopy and the strap is padded.

Another great stroller for travel is the UPPAbaby G-Luxe that folds down into a triangular design and is as compact as a backpack for babies. It has plenty of storage space for a diaper bag and weekender bags, with a back pocket and two cup holders for parents. The G-Luxe is only restricted by the fact that it can't fully recline and doesn't have a convenient carrying strap. However, it's an excellent choice for families who are always on the move.

The Cybex Libelle is the most compact stroller that is capable of folding. The stroller folds into a rectangle as thin as a passport. It is easily tucked into a backpack or purse. It can be rolled along the aisles of an airplane and is ideal for checking gates, cabin storage or even for storage in the overhead compartments.

Carry it easily

Lightweight strollers not just take up less space in your car, but they are simple to store and carry with a bag. This makes them perfect for families on-the-go. Some fold as smaller as umbrellas and can be tucked away them in the corner of your trunk, or in your diaper bag when you're not using them. Others come with handles or padded carrying straps that easily slips over your shoulder.

The tiniest strollers fold into a rectangle shape and measure just 12x14x7 inches once folded, which is within the limits of airline carry-ons. The Pockit is a great example. It is a two-step process and requires both your hands to fold it, but it is so light you can carry it as a backpack or tote. Another compact option is the Cybex Libelle, which is slightly larger than the Pockit, and folds into a rectangle but measures 13x18x7 inches when folded.

Lightweight strollers might not always roll as smoothly as strollers that have larger wheels and more robust suspension systems, but they are an excellent option for maneuvering tight spaces such as airport terminals or narrow aisles on public transport. They can also be used on rough terrain, such as cobblestone streets or sandy beaches, though your child is likely to suffer more bruises and bumps than a premium full-size stroller equipped with a robust suspension system.

UPPAbaby's new Minu stroller is a great model of a stroller that is light that provides a lot of functionality for the price. Its suspension handles rough terrain, it comes with a decent canopy (though not as much coverage as our top pick), and the recline mechanism is simple and user-friendly. However, it's not as compactly as the Yoyo2 or Munchkin Sparrow and weighs more than the Bugaboo Butterfly, so you may need to gate-check it for flights. It does come with an innovative feature, however: a retractable footrest that doubles as a handle when the stroller is folded.

Contours Quick Elite is another excellent choice. It can accommodate 30 different car seats (adapter required) or a child up to 50 pounds. It's not as light like our other top picks, but is still quite compact when folded, and it comes with a large under-seat basket that fits the backpack of a child.

Easy to store

Think about a stroller that features the compact folding feature to ensure that it is easy to store and transport. These strollers typically come with an upright that can be used to keep them upright when not in use. This makes it simple to put the stroller in your trunk or back seat for quick access whenever you need it.

Another option to make it easier to take your lightweight stroller on the go is to search for one that has a portable carry bag or pouch that is included with it. It's still a great choice if you need a light travel stroller, though.
