The main selling point of Eufy's the X8 is its laser navigation. The X8 makes use of a laser mapping system that is more precise than previous Eufy devices. It takes less time to build an extensive map of your home. It also has the ability to store multiple maps. This is perfect for multi-floored homes.

The X8 is a decent vacuum cleaner for floors that are clean. It is able to easily throw debris through the side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin. The X8's tyres, despite their circular shape, are good at grabbing corners and edges. Our tests showed that it was able to remove 90 percent of the fur on hard floors.

The basic mopping mode uses the same water reservoir as the vacuuming mode. While this is great for spills that aren't too big, you can't limit the amount of water it consumes which can limit its effectiveness when dealing with more serious staining. It does a good job in removing hair from pets. It has a higher pick-up rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Awarded for its quiet and efficient home appliances, Miele's RX2 robot vacuum is a great choice because of its cleaning power, gorgeous design and excellent navigation. There are a few niggles in its operation that prevent it from being ranked as the top smart robot vacuum.

Similar to the latest models of iRobot like the RX2 has dual-sensor mapping which uses an LIDAR sensor to map an area and a pair of 3D scanning cameras that can detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real time. Once mapped, the app lets you assign virtual no-go areas and areas that you want to clean. will clean automatically. You can also change the cleaning modes, initiate an automatic clean or see live feeds from the cameras onboard from the main screen.

The RX2's sensors are effective in registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. And its sweeping and suction power are top of the line, picking up surface litter from carpets with medium piles and dust in bare floors. It's not the fastest robotics on the market. As with many others it's not a great climber and has trouble with things like thresholds made of metal transition strips.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac is a robot that looks like any other, but comes with some extra features and is more efficient. Its smart mapping system creates 2D and 3D maps of your home and uses them to navigate around obstacles and avoid them. It's also able to detect common obstructions such as furniture legs and power cords in real time. This combination of sensors along with a bump sensor, and an infrared sensor for dropping that keeps it off the stairs make it one of the most flexible vacuums we've tried.

It was able to walk over thick shag carpets and did not get stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s, or Roomba 690-). Its navigational skills were impressive as well; its composite score in carpet and bare floors was better than the competition. It took in 98.5 percent of the surface litter and embedded pet hair from our lab test samples.

Its controls are a bit simpler than the competitors. It's a powerful robot vacuum, even if the app isn't the most responsive and the 980 spins when rolling over cables.

We love the 980 due to its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneity mapping and localisation (or vSLAM), to memorise the floor plan of your home. It then uses this information to design an efficient and consistent cleaning path for every cycle. The result is cleaner floors, and a more efficient vacuum than most competing high-end robot vacuums.

Other features of the 980 include dual multi-surface brushes that grab dirt on floors and carpets and a spinning brush to sweep debris into the robotic vacuum's bin. The sensors for floor tracking help it navigate between furniture and around edges, while Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling down the stairs. It will automatically return to its base station for easy charging between sessions. The bin capacity and battery life of the 980 aren't as impressive as other robot vacuums. However, it is a solid and reliable machine that will keep floors clean for many hours.
