There's also a more affordable SmartThings Hub Dongle that can support Z-Wave and Zigbee, with Thread support coming soon.

Once you've got your smart fridge, smartphone and hub connected, it's really easy to use. SmartThings allows you to control your refrigerator from anywhere. Notifications are sent to your smartphone when the refrigerator is opened or closed. You can set up schedules to set the temperature, and even set reminders.

SmartThings is an early member of the Home Connectivity Alliance, which is striving to make the most important appliances in the home from a variety of manufacturers compatible. In the future you could control your Samsung washer/dryer, Electrolux oven, and LG TV through the same app.

Family Hub is not only a platform for managing groceries and entertainment It also manages Samsung's SmartThings platform. It can connect to Matter-compatible devices, such as lights, plugs and locks and allow you to use the touchscreen to control them.

samsung refrigeration's fridge is a couple of years old and, although it still has a lot of functionality but its touchscreen features are not a feature that most people would consider a must-have. They're more fun and a bit of frivolous accessories than anything else.

That might change as more software updates are released, but for the moment these models are best for those looking for the most complete connected fridge they can get. You could save money by purchasing one without the Family Hub if you're not one of these people. If you have many smart home appliances that you want to control with one screen, or if you are awed by the idea of a refrigerator with a giant touchscreen, it might be worth the money.
