Saab Key Programming

Saab key programmer cars that were built prior to 1994 have an immobilizer system that is based on codes for Saab Key programmer keys. To add an additional key, you need the purchase of a new transponder as well as special programming. This is usually done by the dealer with a specialized Tech2 diagnostic tool.

Transponder key

The transponder is a type of key that has an electronic chip. This chip sends a signal when the key is placed into the ignition. Saab cars are typically delivered with two keys. The next step is to wire the column and row wires to the microcontroller. This is the most difficult part of the project and Saab key programmer requires a significant amount of soldering. There isn't a standard method to go about it, however, you should determine how to route and solder each column and row. There are 22 microcontroller wires as well as pins to connect for this keyboard. It includes 5 rows and 17 columns.

The tools connect to OBD ports and help the customer through each step making the process simpler than replacing the vehicle's computer.

Jumpstarting the battery

The majority of people have a set of jumper cables in their trunk to use in an emergency, but jumping a battery for newer vehicles might not be the best option. These cars are equipped with a variety of computers and digital devices which communicate with each other. A voltage surge while the battery is connected to another one could damage these components and leave your car undriveable.

Start the vehicle that is working and allow it to run for approximately two minutes before you connect the cables to the disabled one. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the good battery (it will have "POS" or "+" on it). Attach the other end to a clean, unpainted metal surface beneath the hood of the damaged car. The engine block is an excellent option. Don't connect the black cable to the negative terminal on the dead battery, as this could cause an ignition spark that ignites the gasoline in the engine bay.

Once the cables are connected, turn on the vehicle you are not using and allow it to run for around five minutes before disconnecting the cables in reverse order. Be aware that the battery of your Saab 9-3 is charged during your drive, which means it could take a while for the battery to come back to its original level. You should purchase a second key fob, as soon as possible. Replacing the original one that works requires the installation and programming of a brand new computer chip.

Replacement case

Saab owners usually have only one car key, and if it is lost, they will be charged. It's costly to add the key and also requires replacing the CIM or TWICE in the case of older models.
