What to Do With Your Rep Kit

Rep kits are a great means to repair your gear until you can get to the trailhead to have it repaired professionally. The key is knowing what to do when you require it.

The long-term use of home repaired dentures can result in rapid bone loss, ongoing irritation and sores as well as tumors and sores.

Tools

Being equipped with the right tools is essential when working in the field. This kit was created with this in mind, and includes all the basic hand tools required for repairs on the field. All of the tools are made from steel with only a small amount of plastic to ensure they can withstand use. The kit comes complete with the coalcracker tool, a canvas zippered pouch, reamer, twisted awl cutting shears and Gimlet (5MM), sinue spools made of wood, an oil bottle for the coalcracker tool oil and illustrated instructions.

Repair Patches

If you've got a gap or two in your gear, think about adding adhesive patches to your rep kit. These patches are made of high-performance glue pre-applied on a rugged polyurethane back that allows a tear under pressure to recover. These patches are available in clear or colored versions and provide durability against punctures as well as sun, moisture, saltwater and temperature extremes.

If your kit doesn't include any of the above items, you may want to consider adding a water-proof Aquaseal wader sealant. This water-tight glue can be applied to plastics, fabric, metals, and more for a permanent fix. This is ideal for repairs to drysuits and can also be utilized in the field. Allow the sealant to dry for up to 12 hours prior to applying the repaired gear.

The avon welcome kit comes with one Clean Tape patch and a sil nylon repair swatch and a 1/4 ounce tube of Goretex Silfix repair adhesive and sealant, as well as a brush. Apply patch to a clean flat surface. Make sure there is a minimum of 1/2 inch overlap. Release the paper and rub adhesive side down using a moderate amount of pressure.

Adhesive patches

If you're out on the trail but aren't able to do an entire vulcanising repair, these adhesive patches will get you back in the saddle with no hassle. Simply roughen the tube with the included scraper, then apply one of the self-adhesive patches and apply it to the tube.

Thoroughly clean the punctured area Then apply the tube-scuffer, or sandpaper to roughen the surface, which helps glue stick. Then spread a thin coating of glue over the patch that covers an area at least as big as the patch itself. Wait for the glue to become tacky then press the patch down with a firm pressure and secure it.

This kit contains two clear, adhesive-backed Tenacious Tape fabric repair patches. It also includes one quarter ounce of Seam Grip urethane sealant and repair adhesive. Ideal for strengthening damaged tents, sleeping bags rainwear, packs, and boots.
