Legislation

Asbestos laws are regulated both at the federal and state levels in the United States. The US uses asbestos in a wide range of products even though the majority of industrialized countries have banned asbestos. The federal government regulates the use of asbestos in these products, and also regulates asbestos litigation. State asbestos laws can vary from one state to another however federal laws generally apply to all states. These laws restrict the claims of those who have suffered asbestos-related injuries.

Asbestos is a natural mineral. It is typically mined using open-pit methods. It consists of fibrous fibers. The strands are then processed and mixed with a binding agent such as cement to create an asbestos-containing material, also known as ACM.
