It also did a nice job of maneuvering between furniture and objects, however it had some issues with stairs, where it could accidentally hit things like bookcases.

We were impressed by the feature that the S9 automatically returns to its base to empty its dust bin once it's empty, which dramatically reduces the need for hands-on maintenance. The dust bin will last for about 30 loads or a month and a half. You'll need to replace the filter every few months (as recommended by iRobot). Our experience suggests that the iRobot S9+ doesn't get very loud during operation, so it's a good option for those living with pets or children.

Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

Robot vacuum cleaners are made to do the dirty work for you, and can be used to clean hardwood and carpeted flooring. Certain robot vacuum cleaners can be controlled by a smartphone application, while others come with mopping technology to kitchen and bathroom flooring. They are a great option for busy families and are becoming more affordable. But if you want top-tech features in your robotic cleaner, you're going to have to spend a bit more.

The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid vacuum and mopping machine is an excellent option for those who live in a multi-floored apartment. Its dual motors offer incredible cleaning power and the 0.6l dustbin can hold plenty of pet hair. The dust bin is easy to remove and emptied which is great as you'll have to do this on a regular basis.

It's also easy to set up, although I recommend fully charging the X8 Hybrid prior to running it for the first time. You'll have to install the Eufy Home app and follow the directions for connecting it to your Wi-Fi network. After you've completed this the app will help you create an accurate map of your home. You can name rooms or divide large spaces into sub-rooms (good for open plan living) and guide the X8 Hybrid to specific areas that need cleaning at a given time. Eufy's application is more user-friendly and refined than other robots that have similar mapping and scanning functions.

The X8 Hybrid has a great feature: you can activate the mop or vacuum cleaner through voice thanks to the integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This is a nice addition that makes the robot even more hands-free. And it works well in our test home.

The X8 Hybrid, like many robotic vacuums has some issues with flooring that is not clean. It may miss fur and small items and is known to knock things, such as its charger on the charging platform. It is also not as quiet, and the whirring sound can be distracting as other models.

Roborock V3S Pro

This model isn't as feature-rich as some of the more expensive models we evaluated, but it has all the essentials. It has a huge enough dust bin to hold a lot of dirt before it's time to empty it, and its vacuum and mop system is great for carpets with low pile and hard floors. It's also extremely quiet. We were able watch TV while it cleaned without feeling like we were being constantly bombarded by noise.

Our test participants were extremely pleased by how simple the machine was to use and set up. They also appreciated its ability to remove all the mess from their floors. It did a good job cleaning pet hair, messes and carpeting, but it was more difficult in removing stubborn stains. The app was simple to use and user-friendly. It was able to schedule the vacuum to clean frequently to minimize the amount of manual work. The one downside is that it does not have any mapping technology or object avoidance, which means you can't send it to specific rooms or follow virtual boundaries (though magnetic boundary strips are compatible).

Another model from the iRobot's budget line, the V3S Pro has some impressive features for the price. The V3S Pro did not make it onto any of our top picks lists from reliable sources that test hands-on, but it was praised by Modern Castle, Smart Robot Reviews and The Ambient. They liked the ease of install and use, but they also noted that its battery life was very short and it was unable to stay clear of some of the most difficult problems we've encountered.

You can also set up virtual barriers to ensure that the robot isn't in certain areas and ensure that it only cleans specific kinds of floors.
