Choosing a Double Pushchair Twin

Side-by-Side

They are the most commonly used type of double pushchair, and generally can seat two children together. They tend to be wider than single pushchairs, which means they are less agile on the footpaths and may be a bit difficult to navigate up and down kerbs when a car seat is attached. However the extra width can mean that they're usually more comfortable to maneuver through doorways and are distributed more evenly making them more comfortable to carry on your back.

Many models can be used from birth as twin prams, and can accept a carrycot, or two car seats. Some models can be converted to one-mode with a basket to the side (like the Cybex Venus).

One of the most excellent examples of this is the Bugaboo Donkey 5 which, in Twin Mode, allows you to place the rear seat and a carrycot side by side. This creates a fully enclosed twin space, which is perfect for newborns. The pram also comes with a number of very cool accessories, including the newborn cocoons that can be put on face either way (for a twin-facing pram bags) or facing towards the front (for a normal single). It's not as light as some other options but it is extremely well-thought out.

Its innovative frame expands widthways to accommodate two seats, and you can use it as a twin from birth by incorporating the addition of two infant cocoons (PS59 each) which provide enclosed, lie-flat areas for babies. It can also be used in a mono mode with one child due to a large shopping basket that sits behind the seat. Tandem

If you're planning to have twins, you need a pushchair that can allow the children to sit side by side and be able to see each other. They are perfect for visiting the zoo since the kids can look at the animals together. These are also great for parents who want to monitor both their toddler and their baby at the same time.

Some tandem pushchairs offer extreme flexibility since they can be converted back to single mode. This is particularly useful when you're planning to have more than two kids (or only your oldest child is no longer a need for a buggy). It means you won't be left with an empty pushchair to store away, which can be costly.

The compact, sleek frame makes it easier to maneuver through doors and aisles in supermarkets. Some models can be used on uneven terrain or for a jogging walk thanks to their wide rear wheels and four-wheel suspension.

A tandem pushchair could also be used to carry two carrycots or a car with a buggy seat. This allows you to create an entire travel system from the beginning and save money on additional purchases. It's important to keep in mind that tandems are heavier and longer than single pushchairs and may feel less stable when bumping up kerbs or going over uneven surfaces. These pushchairs must also be dismantled for fitting into cars.
