Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

The best way to keep your home clean is to use a robotic vacuum. It can remove dust, pet hair and other particles on the surface.

Some robots connect to smart assistants such as Alexa and Google Assistant for a hands-free experience. Look for models that can recharge and pick up where they left off.

1. iRobot S8

This smart robot vacuum and mop is a fantastic choice for many homes. It can be used to vacuum and mop and has a great navigation system that includes both GPS and laser sensors, and offers a broad range of features and controls available via the app. It also comes with a helpful feature that lets you add cleaning zones to certain areas that need extra attention and Keep Out zones where you don't want it to go. It also receives software updates, like all Roomba products, which improve the quality of the product over time.

It's costly, but it's also one of the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has ever tested. It comes with a powerful battery that can vacuum an entire home in less than two hours. Additionally, it can switch between mopping and vacuuming at the touch of one button. It automatically empties the trash bin that is above its charging station, in contrast to other self emptying robots which require you to empty the bin after every run.

It also comes with a variety of other features, including intelligent obstacle avoidance which uses a camera along with processor-powered smarts to identify obstacles. It isn't often entangled or entrapped during a cleaning cycle, and it's the best in avoiding power cables and other objects I've tested. However, it isn't as effective in detecting pet waste or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

Eufy is owned by Anker, has become an established brand in the world of low-cost robot vacuums. However, it didn't provide an option to mop. That changes with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive array of modern features and is able to compete with more expensive models.

The laser navigation system is the primary selling point of this machine. The previous Eufy devices have constructed an approximate map of your home by using infrared sensors and bumping into objects however the X8's laser mapping technology is more precise. It also takes a lot less time to create an accurate map of your space and stores multiple maps, which is ideal for multi-floor homes.

The X8 is still a good vacuum on floors with no dust that can carry debris under its side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin with ease. The tyres are adept at securing corners and edges despite being circular. Our tests revealed that it was able to remove 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.

The mopping mode that is the basic one uses the same reservoir of water as the vacuuming mode. While this is good for loose spills however, you aren't able to control how much water it uses and this will reduce its effectiveness on more severe staining. It is effective at picking up pet hair. It has a higher percentage of hair removal than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is renowned for its quiet, effective appliances. It is a stunning design, excellent navigation and an impressive cleaning power. It has a few oddities in its operation that prevent it from being ranked as the best smart robot vacuum.

Similar to the latest models of iRobot and models, the RX2 has dual-sensor mapping technology that utilizes the LIDAR sensor to map an area and a pair of 3D scanning cameras that can detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real-time. Once the room has been mapped, you can assign virtual no-go zones and favorite sections to the robot. You can also manually change cleaning modes, initiate an automatic vacuum cleaner robot clean or watch live feeds of the cameras onboard from the main screen.

The sensors of the RX2 work well by registering furniture and obstructions in real-time. The suction and sweeping abilities are exceptional, taking away surface debris from medium pile carpeting as well as dust that has been deposited on floors. It's not the fastest robot on the market. As with many others, it's not a good climber and has trouble with things like thresholds made of steel transition strips.

Some people buy robot vacuums due to the ease of setting up a schedule on an app, only to forget about them for weeks. It's crucial that a robot is able to get the job done that's the reason our ZDNet staff tested and reviewed several of the most well-known models to help you find the best one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget-friendly robovac looks just like your typical robot but it's upgraded in terms of performance and features. Its intelligent mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home and uses those to navigate and avoid obstacles. It's also able to detect common obstacles like power cords and furniture legs in real-time. This combination of sensors along with a bump detector and an infrared sensor that keeps the vacuum off the stairs makes it one of our most flexible vacuums.

It was able to walk over thick shag carpets and was not stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s, or Roomba 690-). Its navigation abilities were also impressive. Its composite score for carpet and homekit robot vacuum bare flooring beat the competition, and it picked up 98.5% of dirt and embedded dog hair that we tested in our lab samples.

The controls are simpler than the competitors. There's a clean button at the top, and you can either start it by using the app or via voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule daily or weekly cleanings, create no-go zones and view its history of cleaning. In a smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks stylish in your home. The rear dust bin is accessible for emptying and removing the filter equally easy.

5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking for a simple low-cost robot vacuum at a low cost, the Eufy11S is a great option. It isn't equipped with some of the more advanced features, like digital mapping and homekit robot Vacuum Alexa integration, found in higher-end models but if you don't need these features, you can save some money with this model.

The homekit robot Vacuum is easy to setup and use. It doesn't require a smartphone app or Wi-Fi pairing, but it does come with an remote control that lets you choose between various modes and adjust the suction level. It also allows you to manually send the robovac off for scheduled cleaning.

During our tests during our tests, the 11S was extremely effective in getting rid of pet hair and dirt from hard floors and in carpets with low pile. Its slim profile allowed it to get under low-hanging furniture and other items that some bulkier robots could not reach. It could also easily traverse door thresholds and transition from one type of floor to another.

The 11S, like other robots, can also eat some objects, such as cords and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests that you can prevent this from happening by keeping these items off the ground and by using a cord organizer whenever possible. It also recommends cleaning the dustbin regularly, replacing the filters and changing or washing the brushes as needed.

6. iRobot Roomba 980

The Roomba 980 is iRobot's flagship robot vacuum. It's expensive but it's the best robot vacuum you can buy. Its self navigation and environmental mapping are a wonder to behold. It also has more advanced automation features than most competitors, including the ability to create virtual boundary markers through its mobile application. Although its application is a bit slow and the 980 may spin a bit when moving over cables, it's a very capable robot vacuum.

We really like the 980 because it uses its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneity mapping and localisation (or vSLAM) to remember the floor plan of your home. It then uses this information to design an efficient and consistent cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient vacuum than other high-end robot vacuums.

Other features of the 980 include dual multi-surface brushes that grab dirt on carpets and hard floors, as well as the spinning brush that sweeps debris into the robotic vacuum’s bin. The sensors for floor tracking help it navigate across furniture and along edges, while Cliff Detect helps to prevent the Roomba from falling down stairs. It also automatically returns to its base station for hassle-free recharges between sessions. The battery life and bin capacity of the 980 aren't as impressive as other robot vacuums. However, it is a solid and reliable machine that will keep floors clean for many hours.
