1. iRobot s8

This smart robot mop and vacuum combo is a fantastic option for a wide range of households. It can be used to vacuum and mop, has excellent navigation with both GPS and laser sensors, and offers a broad range of controls and features accessible through the app. It also comes with a helpful feature that lets you create Cleaning zones for specific areas that need extra attention and Keep Out zones that you don't want it to be. And, like all Roomba devices, it is updated with new software updates that make it more efficient over time.

It's costly but it's also among the most advanced robot vacuums that ZDNet has tested. It has a high-powered battery that can clean a large area in less than two hours. It can switch between mopping and vacuuming with the press of one button. It automatically empties the bin of dust above its charging station, in contrast to other self-emptying robots that require you to empty the bin after every run.

It also has a number of other options, like intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses a camera along with processor-powered smarts to detect obstacles. It is rarely derailed or stuck during a cleaning cycle. In my tests, it was the best in avoiding objects such as power cables. It's not as reliable in detecting pet waste, or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

While the Anker-owned Eufy has made an impact in low-cost homekit robot vacuum vacuums it's not yet an all-in-one model that could also mop. This is changing with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive suite of advanced features that can compete against much more expensive models.

The most significant selling point for Eufy with this device is its laser navigation. The X8 utilizes laser mapping technology that is more accurate than the previous Eufy devices. It also takes a lot less time to construct an accurate picture of your home and can store multiple maps, which is great for homes with multiple floors.

The X8 is a good vacuum cleaner for floors that are clean. It can easily sling debris through the side brushes and into the 400ml dustbin. The Tyres of the X8, despite their circular shape, are very adept at grabbing edges and corners. It's not the best cat litter scooper, however our tests have shown it can only remove about 90% of the fur from hard floors.

The basic mopping mode uses the same reservoir of water as the vacuuming mode. This is great for spills that are not too dangerous, but you are unable to control the amount of water that it uses. However, it does an excellent job of picking up pet hair, with a higher speed of pickup than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is known for its quiet, efficient appliances. It has a beautiful design, superb navigation and an impressive cleaning power. It has some oddities in its operation that keep it from being ranked as the best smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping technology that uses a LIDAR to map a room and a pair of 3D scanning cameras for detecting and staying clear of obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). After the room has been identified it is possible to assign virtual no-go zones and sections that you would like to be the robot. You can also begin a manual clean or manually change the cleaning mode, see a live feed from the onboard cameras, and more from the main screen.

The RX2 is equipped with excellent sensors that can identify furniture and other obstructions in a flash. And its sweeping and Robot vacuum brands suction power are top of the line, picking up surface litter from medium-pile carpeting and embedded dust in bare floors. It's not the fastest robotics available. Like many others it's not a very good climber and has issues with things like thresholds made of steel transition strips.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac that looks like any other, but has some extra features and better performance. Its smart mapping system generates 2D and 3D maps of your home and uses them to navigate and avoid obstacles. It can even identify common obstacles like furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors, together with a bump sensor, and an infrared sensor for dropping that keeps it from falling down the stairs make it one of the most agile vacuums we've tried.

In our tests, it easily could climb over the thick shag rug and didn't end up stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigation skills were also impressive as its score for composite tests on carpet and bare floors was better than the competition, and it was able to pick up 98.5 percent of surface pet hair and litter from our laboratory test samples.

Its controls are a bit more basic than the competitors. There's a round cleaning button on the top and you can start it from the app, or by voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also create a schedule for weekly or daily cleaning, set areas that are not allowed to be cleaned, and check its history of cleaning. Clad in smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks stylish in your home. Its rear dustbin is accessible for emptying, and removing the filters is also a breeze.

5. Eufy 11S

Eufy 11S is an excellent choice if you want a robot vacuum that's simple and simple at a cost that is low. It lacks some of the advanced features, such as digital mapping and Alexa integration, which are found in higher-end models, but if you're not looking for those functions you can save some money with this model.

The Roomba is the flagship model of iRobot's robot vacuum. It's pricey but it's a top performer and, in some ways, the most advanced robot vacuum you can purchase. Its self-navigating features and environmental mapping are truly a marvel to behold. It has more advanced automation than its competitors, including the ability to create virtual boundary markers through its mobile application. It's a capable robot vacuum, even if its app isn't the most responsive and the 980's wheels spin out when it comes across cables.

We really like the 980 because it uses its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneity localisation and mapping (or vSLAM), to memorise the floor plan of your home. It will use this information to create a consistent, efficient cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a cleaner vacuum than most competing high-end imartine robot vacuum vacuums.

Other features of the 980 include dual multi-surface brushes that grab dirt from floors and carpets and a spinning brush to sweep debris into the robotic vacuum's bin. The sensors for floor tracking help it navigate across furniture and along edges, and Cliff Detect keeps the Roomba from falling down the stairs. It also automatically returns to its base station for easy charging between sessions. The bin capacity and the battery life of the 980 aren't as impressive as other robot vacuums. However, it is a solid and reliable machine that will keep floors clean for many hours.
