The Lamborghini Sian FKP 37 is a Supercapacitor Hybrid

By Lamborghini standards, the Sian FKP 37 is a wild car. It's also among the first hybrid production cars to utilize a supercapacitor.

A 34-hp electronic motor integrated in the manual automatic transmission powers the Sian for speeds up to 80 mph when the V-12 is in charge. This makes the car more efficient and allows it to accelerate instantly.

Forged Composites

The Sian's Hybrid System comes with an additional feature in its sleeve that is supercapacitors. It is able to recharge faster than lithium ion batteries and cheap the car can run for up to 63 seconds on electricity.

Lamborghini's composites that are forged are the main reason for this, and the material may eventually make its way into regular production cars. It's initially uncured plastic which is mixed with short lengths of randomly placed carbon fiber strands. It's not as beautiful as the pre-woven carbon fiber that have been pre-impregnated with resin, however it's a lot more lightweight and stiffer.

To form the carbon fiber into a shape, workers simply cut off the right amount of mass, then place it in a hot press mold, then squeeze it under pressure. It takes just a few minutes but it could take several hours to make the same part with traditional methods.

Lamborghini claims that its production-friendly material could result in more affordable products in future. It's certainly expensive already, but if the manufacturing process can be scaled up, it could save money on both labor and materials. Forged composites are also more flexible than carbon fiber woven and engineers can design complicated shapes without the need to add weight or expense.

Carbon Skin

The Lamborghini Sian has a futuristic, sleek design that maximizes aerodynamic efficiency. The long, sculpted contours and distinctive aero wings create a striking profile while its low front and carbon fiber splitter increase stability. The hexagonal-shaped headlights and Y-shaped headlights shapes are classic Lamborghini characteristics that further emphasise the vehicle's distinct styling. The interior is a combination of luxurious Italian craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technology. The dashboard and the driver's chair are adorned with a unique material called Carbon Skin. This material can be customized using the Ad Personam program.

The Sian's unique hybrid system is powered by a capacitor that combines the power of an electric motor with the efficiency of a battery with a voltage of 48 volts. Its fast-fired torque fills the gaps in acceleration, while its regenerative brakes refuel the battery. The Sian can travel farther on just one tank of gas.

As compared to a traditional lithium-ion battery, the Sian's supercapacitor is three times more efficient and can be charged in 64 seconds. It is also lighter and smaller. The supercapacitor, which is located in the bulkhead that divides the engine compartment from the cabin powers a motor with a power of 34 hp that is situated in the rear of the automatic transmission.

The Lamborghini Sian was based on Aventador SVJ. This means that it runs the same V12 engine. It shares the same chassis, suspension, and four-wheel drive. The hybrid powertrain that Sian uses is what makes it stand out.

The name Sian is the Bolognese word meaning lightning, and it's an acknowledgment of the brand's heritage and future. The alphanumeric suffix FKP 37 honors Ferdinand Karl Piech, the man who brought Lamborghini into the Volkswagen Group family and died just prior to the Sian's launch. Only 63 examples were produced and they are all spoken for.

Specifications

The Sian is built on the Aventador SVJ, so it features the same V12 engine as well as the same chassis and suspension. It also adds a smaller electric motor to turn it into an hybrid.
