Changing the Battery in Your Mini Key Fob

The key fob makes it simple to lock and unlock your vehicle from some distance. It also allows you to activate the panic button on your vehicle which can prevent burglaries.

You can repair your fob by following few simple steps. Check that the battery is brand new. Then, try taking it from the ignition and pressing the lock button three times quickly.

Battery

The easiest way to fix your key fob's battery is to replace it. The fob has a small coin-shaped battery (CR2032 or 2025) and can be located in the majority of general stores or home improvement stores and auto parts stores. Make sure to use an original battery -old batteries are usually not good for anything and can cause damage to the circuit board.

Begin by removing the fob. It may be a bit tight, but with the aid of a flat screwdriver you should be able separate the two halves. Interference can occasionally interfere with communication. If you charge your second-generation Apple Pencil while holding the fob (via iGeneration), it could prevent you from unlocking the vehicle.

Other electronic devices that operate on the same frequency could also interfere with the fob's signal. This could include garage door openers and tire-pressure monitoring systems. Even a transmitter inside your home could be interfering, but this is not easy for professionals to test.

Modern electronic key fobs offer more convenience and functions than traditional manual keys. However they are also more susceptible to damage. A faulty chip is one of the most common issues that could stop the key fob from working correctly. It is usually a simple fix.

If your car key fob isn't able to start up it could be a sign of a malfunctioning chip. The issue is usually resolved by replacing the battery which is affordable and easy to locate at any hardware store or big box retailer. Be sure to buy the right replacement battery compatible with your specific model of car to avoid recurring problems.

The fob should not be exposed to water or soapy residue. Water can cause corrosion, which can cause interference with the circuit board. If this is the case you'll need to wash the board with isopropyl or an electronic cleaner prior to installing an entirely new battery.

It is a good practice to test the functioning of the fob prior to driving the vehicle. Examine the voltage of new battery with a voltmeter to ensure it is secure.
