Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medications that treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing issues and an increased global demand.

Our service offers private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist. This includes a complete medical history and an evaluation using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your evaluation, you will be informed that medication may be beneficial for your particular situation. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or by phone). Your clinician will explain the various options for medication and if you decide to start on medication we will suggest titrating the dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process can take several weeks and involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication slowly until the right balance is achieved. It's not uncommon to to adjust up to three different medicines until you discover the one that best fits your child's ADHD. It is essential for parents to take part in this process of titration adhd adults and keep an eye on their child's behaviour to inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing side effects.

If you do not decide to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be provided with a private prescription which you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fee). You must attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment has been completed, you'll be able to schedule follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist as appropriate. Typically, the appointment will take place via a zoom video call but in certain circumstances it may be possible to have an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).

We will then go over the options for treatment and then decide on a bespoke, individualised ADHD medication titration. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dosage, as well as any side effects that you might be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 by video or phone consultation. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask questions regarding your family history, the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any relationship problems or mental health issues you might be experiencing. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, so it's important to examine your family history in order to determine if you're at a higher chance of developing this condition.

During this examination, it is vital that you are honest and honest with your doctor who will be using the information you provide to determine if you are able to meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a vital step in the process as failing to do so could lead to an inaccurate diagnosis and consequently an inappropriate prescription of medication.

If you've decided you'd like to be treated for your ADHD, we will then schedule a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists that specialize in this field. If you'd like to start treatment immediately, you can do this immediately following the diagnosis. Or you can wait for two weeks before considering the implications of the diagnosis and the options available to you.

If you're not sure what your preference is it is recommended that you talk with your GP before booking your private appointment as certain providers have different rules regarding whether they require an GP referral letter or not. We also recommend to check if your GP accepts a "Shared Care Agreement', which means that after you have been discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the prescription for the medication.

Medication

Medication is an integral part of the journey for many people looking for a private ADHD diagnosis. It isn't easy to obtain a prescription from a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be notoriously long, and GPs might be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Requesting your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry - UK and ADHD 360). This means you can select an organization that offers a private assessment and titration service. This can reduce your wait time considerably and can be more convenient if you're working and have a busy schedule.

Once you have been referred through this route the doctor you choose will examine you and decide whether or not you're required to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will be asked to fill out forms that are different for each provider, but the main ones are self-report questionnaires as well as medical histories from childhood and adulthood. These will help your clinician determine any issues that could suggest you should not take ADHD medication if prescribed.

If you are on a titration medication, this will usually be a combination of stimulants and non-stimulant medications. They will be tested and monitored to find the most suitable combination for you. The titration process can be long and could require a few extra appointments before you are stable on your dosage.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments is contingent on the type and amount of medication that you are taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician making sure that you are taking the correct medication, logging any side effects you've experienced and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you remain in a safe dosage. You will be required to attend an annual health check-up and regular health check-up that includes pulse, blood pressure, and weight measurements.

Some people may be satisfied with their treatment and do not have to discuss their titration process further. If you need to discuss your titration or treatment plan more thoroughly it is possible that you'll be sent back to the private doctor who made your initial assessment. In this instance the titration is included in the consultation fee. The medication will be administered via an individual prescription. This may cost more than prescriptions from the NHS since the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
