Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

The best method to keep your home clean is to use a robotic vacuum. It will remove pet hair, dust and other particles from the floor before it becomes a bigger problem.

Some robots are able to sync with smart assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant for a hands-free experience. Find models that recharge and then resume cleaning where they left off.

1. iRobot S8

This smart robot vacuum and mop is a great choice for many homes. It is able to vacuum and mop well and is extremely navigable using both GPS and laser sensors and comes with a variety of features and controls that are accessible through the app. It also comes with a useful feature that lets you add cleaning zones to certain areas that need extra attention, as well as Keep Out zones where you do not want it to move. Like all Roomba devices, it gets new software updates that make it even better over time.

It's expensive but is also one of the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has ever tested. It's got a huge battery that can sweep an entire home in less than two hours. It also switches between mopping and vacuuming at the press of the button. It will automatically empty the bin of dust above its charging station, in contrast to other self-emptying robots that require you to empty it after every run.

It has a wide range of other features that make it a good choice for homes with a lot of space that include intelligent obstacle avoidance, which uses the camera as well as processor-powered smarts to detect obstacles. It is rarely derailed or stuck during a cleaning cycle. In my tests it was the most effective in avoiding objects such as power cables. It's not as reliable at detecting pet waste or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

While Anker-owned Eufy has made a name for itself in budget robot vacuums, it's not yet an all-in-one model that could also mop. That's changed with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive array of modern features that can compete with more expensive models.

Eufy's main selling point with the X8 is its laser navigation. The X8 uses a laser mapping system that is more precise than the previous Eufy devices. It takes less time to create an accurate map of your home and can store multiple maps. This is ideal for homes with multiple floors.

The X8 is a great vacuum cleaner for robot vacuum and mop floors with no dust. It is able to effortlessly sling debris under the side brushes and into the 400ml dustbin. The X8's tyres, despite having a circular shape, are adept at grabbing corners and edges. It's not a fantastic cat litter eater, however our tests have shown it only removes about 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.

The mopping mode that is the basic one uses the same water reservoir as the vacuuming mode. This is ideal for spills that aren't too serious, but you can't control the amount of water it consumes. It does a good job of removing pet hair. It has a higher percentage of hair removal than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is known for its quiet, efficient appliances. It is a stunning design, a great navigation system, and excellent cleaning power. There are a few niggles in its operation that prevent it from being named the best smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping technology which uses LIDAR to map an area as well as a pair of 3D scanning cameras to detect and staying clear of obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once the room has been defined and assigned, you can designate virtual no-go areas and preferred sections to the robot. You can also manually change cleaning modes, start a manual clean or see live feeds of the cameras onboard from the main screen.

The sensors of the RX2 work well by registering furniture and obstructions in real-time. And its sweeping and suction power are top-notch, picking up surface litter from medium-pile carpeting and embedded dust in bare floors. It's not the fastest robot on the market. Like many other robots it's not a very good climber and has issues with things like thresholds made of steel transition strips.

Some people buy a robot vacuum to enjoy the convenience of setting a schedule on an app and forgetting about it for weeks at an time. It is essential for a robot capable of the task and that's why our ZDNet team has tested and reviewed some of the most popular models to help you pick the best one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac that looks like any other, but it has a few more features and is more efficient. Its smart mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home and uses those to avoid obstacles and navigate. It can even identify common obstacles such as furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors, together with a bump sensor and an infrared drop sensor that keeps it off the stairs make it one of the most flexible vacs we've tried.

In our tests, it easily moved over large shag rugs and didn't get stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigation capabilities were impressive. Its composite score for carpet and bare flooring beat the competition, and it was able to pick up 98.5 percent of the pet hair that we tested in our lab samples.

Its controls are a bit more basic than those of the competition; there's an oblong cleaning button at the top, and you can launch it via the app, or by voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also create a schedule for your daily or weekly cleaning, set no-go zones, and view the history of its cleaning. Covered in stylish dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks attractive in your home. The dust bin on the rear is accessible for emptying and removing the filter equally easy.

5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking to buy a basic low-cost robot vacuum at a low cost, the Eufy11S is a great option. It lacks some of the more advanced features, like digital mapping and Alexa integration, which are available in higher-end models, but if you're not looking for those functions you can save some money by purchasing this model.

This robot is simple to set up and use. It doesn't require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does include a remote control which lets you select between different modes and adjust suction levels. You can also manually send the robotvac on a cleaning schedule.

In our tests, we discovered that the 11S was extremely efficient at cleaning pet fur and dirt from hard floors and low-pile carpets. Its slim profile helped it get under furniture and other low items that some of the larger robots could not reach. It was able to get easily over thresholds of doors and switch from one floor type to another.

Like other robots, the 11S is able to suck up some objects like cords, drawstrings for hoodies, and cat toys. The manufacturer says that you can stop this by keeping such objects off the floor and by using an organizer for cords if you can. It also recommends that you periodically clean the dustbin, change the filters, and clean or change the brushes as necessary.

iRobot Roomba 990

The Roomba is the flagship model of iRobot's robot vacuum. It's costly however it's top-performing and is arguably the most sophisticated goovi robot vacuum vacuum you can buy. Its self-navigation and environmental mapping are a joy to behold. It also has more advanced automation features than most competitors, such as the ability to set virtual boundary lines using its mobile app. While its app is a little sluggish, and the 980 does spin out a bit when moving over cables, it's still a highly efficient robot vacuum.

We love the 980, because it makes use of its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors and visual simultaneity mapping and localisation (or vSLAM) to store your home's floor plan. It will then use that information to create an efficient and consistent cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a better robot vacuum than most high-end robots.

Other features of the 980 include dual multi-surface brushes which grab dirt on hard floors and carpets and a spinning brush to sweep debris into the robotic vacuum’s bin. The sensors for floor tracking help it navigate around furniture and along edges, while Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling down stairs. It also automatically returns to the base station to allow for recharging in between sessions. Although the 980's battery life and bin size aren't quite as efficient as some other robot vacuums, it's a reliable and solid machine that will keep your floors clean for hours and hours.
