Following a series of social media posts suggesting it, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini finally announced its NFT (non fungible token) Project. Space Key is being developed in collaboration with a non-disclosed artist and based on advanced carbon fiber composite materials that were sent to the International Space Station as research material, is a new project that has been announced by Lamborghini.

The new project - called the Space Key - is a work of art that was made by a collaboration with an unidentified artist. The one-of-a-kind NFT is a physical object that has a link to exclusive digital artwork accessible through an QR code on the back. The project is a limited edition and will be auctioned off over the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made of carbon composite material that Lamborghini, as part of a research project in the year 2019, sent to the International Space Station. After returning to earth, the carbon fiber was crafted into this unique artwork. The physical piece includes an NFT serial code that links to the digital image via QR code on the rear.

The physical component of Space Key

The NFT was developed in collaboration with an unknown artist and will be auctioned off in just a few weeks. The core of the NFT is a piece made of carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station (ISS) in the year 2019 as part of an investigation project. The carbon fiber has been 3D printed to create the base of each Space Key, which is linked with an exclusive, digital artwork through an QR code on its backside. Five Space Keys have been produced.

NFTs are unique IDs that can be logged in distributed ledgers like the Blockchain, and linked to a digital asset like images. They're all the rage for those with more money than sanity and it was only a matter of time until an automaker decided to capitalize on the trend.

The digital artwork

After weeks of social media posts that hinted at it, luxury car maker Lamborghini finally announced its first project for tokens that are non-fungible (NFT). It's called the Space Key, it consists of five items that unlock an exclusive digital artwork NFT created by a yet-to-be-identified artist. The 'collectors piece' was developed in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm) and is limited to just five units. It will be auctioned off soon.

Each Space Key contains a block composed of carbon-fired composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research program. After returning to Earth the block was engraved with a QR code that links to the digital component in the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that occurs at different times when the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Each of the five images was filmed by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner used an inflatable camera equipped with lenses to capture the individual images, which were later put together into the final image. The result is a truly out of this world photo that captures the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic look of the car rising from it. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned soon, but there's no precise date or place yet.

The auction

With the slogan 'to the moon', the prestigious automobile maker Lamborghini has entered the world of non-fungible tokens (NFT) by launching a hypnotic project developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm). The Space Key is essentially an NFT that contains carbon fiber composite material that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 for research purposes. The actual sample was cut into five unique pieces that connect to unique digital artworks created by an artist that has not yet been announced via the QR code.

The auctions, which will take place between February 1 until February 4, last for 75 hours and 50 minutes - the same amount of time it took Apollo 11 to leave Earth and enter lunar orbit. The five NFTs can be purchased by signing up online.
