iRobot Combo Review

Combo is iRobot's first mop-and-vacuum robot, and it's also the most stylish model from the company. The top of the machine is brushed aluminum, and the iRobot Logo are more classy than the blatant designs of competitors.

It's a mop

It's a great vacuum cleaner, and it has no trouble crossing over large carpets or the transition strips between flooring surfaces. It can even pick-up fine dust that other robotic vacuums miss. It's not great at mowing. It won't remove dried milk stains unless you do it four or five times.

IRobot's own Braava Jet M6 mopping robot, that is available in an assortment with the j7 Plus often for less than the combo Combo and performs much better in this and other difficult jobs. It can also remove ketchup and wine spills, but I wouldn't recommend sending it after any liquids that contain a large amount of sugar.

It's an air vacuum

It's among the more attractive robot vacuums. The top part is smooth and doesn't show dirt or fingerprints as easily as other models. Its tiny combo dustbin and water tank are easy to open and close, although they're not the best in terms of capacity. The Combo J7+ also has the features you'd would expect from iRobot including maps and obstacle avoidance mapping that works reliably and quickly. But it's the mopping arm that really makes this a standout model in its class. The mop pad is kept on the top of the robot vacuum. However, if it detects a surface which requires mopping the pad is moved under and behind the robot vacuum. This is a major improvement over other robot vacuums that require you to manually remove the mop pad to clean hard floors and carpets, or even turn the entire unit off for mopping.

It's an electric charging station

When you're ready to charge your Combo Irobot, simply place it on the changing station and align its metal contacts to those on the base. The charging station works well and is simple to set up. In my tests, it took a few minutes for the robot to start charging and then make a sound when it was done. After the Combo Irobot is fully recharged, you can begin mapping runs in the app to help it understand your home. You can also mark specific objects, such as cords for lamps, as permanent avoidances in the app. You can also connect Alexa or Google Assistant to your robot so that you can use commands with your voice to navigate around the house.

It's a smart device

Combo irobots use acoustic and onboard sensors to discover the type of floor they're navigating as well as the objects that are in your home. This information is then combined with images from the robot's camera on board and maps of your home, to create a customized plan to clean every room.
