In our hardwood floor and kibble tests it performed well and was able to pick up everything from one grain of rice to several pieces of dog food in one go. It had a bit of trouble transitioning to rugs, but in general this vacuum cleaner is great for rooms that have both types of flooring and a variety of pets.

The A4s Pro is a bit expensive however it's a great option for those who wish to be able to leave the house hands-free so they can take on other tasks or take care chores. The A4s Pro has a convenient auto-cleaning feature that increases suction to take on difficult dirt or spills. It also includes a battery-powered ElectroWall to establish boundaries for the robot.

This budget-friendly robot from a popular new brand is the most affordable we've ever tested and offers an outstanding value for money. Its navigation system is basic and uses a super-basic random pathing algorithm, but it doesn't have room mapping capabilities, making it less time efficient than the other models on this list. However it's still able reach under furniture and in corners and its mopping mode was very effective in our testing and was able to pick up pet hair and other debris easily.

5. Shark iQ

Shark's iQ may not be as sturdy as the Roomba S9, but it is superior in general at cleaning up pet hair on all surfaces. It gets rid of floors with less thoroughly and does a fair job on carpets with a low pile and makes use of smart-pathing navigational technology for superior maneuverability. It also allows you to transfer it to a particular room, and its sophisticated set of automation features include no-go zones and scheduling. It lets you pause and resume cleaning sessions, making it perfect for homes that have pets.

Its self-cleaning brushroll helps prevent tangles with pet hair and other debris, and its self-emptying bagless docking station can hold up to 30 days worth of dirt before it needs to be cleaned. It also comes with an assortment of angled side brushes that penetrate into corners and its multi-stage filter system is able to capture dust, dander and allergens for a cleaner air.
