Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also well-known studio musicians with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. Taking their name from the Latin word that means "all all-encompassing," the group was intent on exploring every style of music.

In 1981 Toto's third album Turn Back was a complete failure, but they rebound with their fourth album Isolation that features two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household name throughout the world.

After a brief hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is a departure from the ballads on previous albums, and features some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.

They decide to change their name and create a new album with the new producer.
