Three Wheeled Buggies

If you're looking for a buggy to jog with or just a nifty stroller to tackle the neighborhood, three wheel pushchair-wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver, even in tight spaces.

For an easy ride, opt for a pram that has air-filled tyres. Look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. They are susceptible, however, to punctures. Be prepared with a repair set.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy out with an infant and a toddler and found it to be very sturdy. It handled cobbles, grass, and rough pavements as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She noted that it was solid to push, and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require occasionally pumping) offer built-in suspension, which was very comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to consider is the seat size and shape. You'll want it to be large enough for your child's comfort. You will also want it to be able to recline so that they can lie flat. Certain three-wheel buggies have a full lie-flat option while others will only allow an adult facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road and walking in muddy areas. This buggy is suitable for a single child starting from birth, and can be adapted to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers until age four and comes with a bumper bar, raincover, an improved 5-point harness and large padded seat unit. The storage options are good as well, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets in the hood, and a handy pouch on the back of the seat unit.

Wheels with larger diameter

Larger wheels mean your buggy will be more stable on rough terrain - ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. They also help you navigate the pushchair through tight spaces. Some three-wheeled buggies come with rotating wheels on the front, which help you navigate tight corners. Others are designed to run and have fixed wheels that lock for increased speed and stability. This is also useful if you bump against trees or a kerb. The front wheel will be lifted slightly to avoid hitting it.

A majority of 3 wheel jogger wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres which allow them to navigate a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They are also lighter. They are prone to punctures, so you'll require repair kits and an spare inner tubes on hand.

Both of these buggies have larger wheels that, as per MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on grass, gravel tracks and market town cobbles" and are able to effortlessly go up and down kerbs. They also have suspension that, according to Kath "smooths out bumps extremely effectively".

The downside of having bigger wheels is that they can make some buggies quite wide and can struggle to fit through narrow spaces. This can be an issue if you're using it as a jogger or to maneuver through doors that are narrow when out and about. Many models have compact folding options, which let you remove the front wheels and store them more compactly.

Easy to maneuver

A three-wheeler can be easier to maneuver with children. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels can turn on a dime, and are easy to move, making them ideal for terrains that are difficult, such as parks, cobblestones, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried out a three-wheeler with her infant and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the terrain with the swivel rear wheel being particularly helpful. I was also impressed by how well it coped with bumps, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. It was extremely stable when in the downhills or on uneven terrain."

The only downside to this incredible maneuverability is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy might make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something to keep in mind when your home is one of the cities. If this is an issue then a 4-wheeler might be a better option for you.
