Line-up

The album's third, Turn Back, marked the return to the traditional sextet arrangement of previous albums. It was a more ferocious, consistent effort with a harder edge than Hydra. The more experimental sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the maturation in the group. Drummer Bobby Kimball's increased virtuosity was reflected by the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard playing was also sharper, more complex, and less derivative on previous recordings.
