Technology

Bentley's engineering knowledge is an asset in the field of infrastructure projects. However, the company is increasingly relying upon technology to meet the increasing workload demands. In 2022, at its Year in Infrastructure (YII) event, Bentley Systems introduced a series of new products that use digital twins and cloud data to help facilitate faster, more precise design and project delivery.

For instance, Bentley's awe-inspiring additive manufacturing (AM) system can transform 3D models in CAD into actual components. The technology was used to make everything from on the job assisted tools for Bentley's colleagues in manufacturing to historical accurate tools for restoring its woodshop's iconic look, as well as lightweight sanding block needed to create Bentley cars that were driven in record-breaking time at the Pikes Peak Challenge.

A number of improvements to Bentley's ProjectWise platform were announced which included new digital components reuse capabilities; a broader range of capabilities for civil design review and advanced design validation; the Drive Simulation tool to experience the driving capabilities of a design and ensure the correct sight lines and the capability to incorporate multiple formats of project files within the same workspace for collaborative design reviews. Bentley also announced the new Bentley Infrastructure Cloud, a collection of integrated solutions that span the entire infrastructure project lifecycles.

The new solutions include an iTwin Bridge Monitoring solution which makes use of drone video and iTwin Capture to provide real-time bridge inspections, as being able to track and monitor the performance of the bridge using IoT sensors that are layered onto digital twins and a Dam Monitoring solution that provides unidirectional access to sensor data. Bentley is also connecting its iTwin platform with the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) to assist users meet sustainability standards.
