Saab Key Replacement

Lost or Stolen Keys

Don't pour or drop liquids in the fob, as this could harm the electronic components.

Every saab key programming since 1995 has been required to have an immobilizer in the vehicle. This makes it almost impossible to take your car away without a special key. The key needs a special transponder inside it to turn on the engine and open your doors. The key also needs a transmitter/transponder chip that needs to be matched with the car's computer module in order to work. This can only be accomplished by dealers using a tool known as Tech-2 or similar software.

It is not recommended to remove the broken key from your ignition or lock. It could damage the lock and create other issues. In the event that you try to force a damaged key out is usually a result in the breaking of the steel key blade or lock mechanism itself. This can become much more expensive than a key replacement completed by a qualified locksmith.

Replacement

Owners of Saab cars from about 1994 and upwards are advised to have at a minimum two working keys for their vehicle. Replacing the sole key is expensive and complicated. The dealer will have to replace both the CIM (Column Integration module) or TWICE, depending on the model. They will also have to program the key in order to work with the new module. Keys that are claimed-new from sellers on the aftermarket are generally not properly initialized and will fail to program correctly when you require them.

It is not unusual for a battery to wear out in a keyfob after several years of use particularly if the fob is frequently used to lock and unlock a car. The replacement of the battery on most saab replacement key programming 9-3 models can be done easily and does not require any special tools.
