3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeled buggy is ideal for off-road terrain and provides the most comfortable ride for infants. They are also simpler to push and maneuver than a four-wheeler, particularly those with fabric slings or modular seat units that are tightly positioned in the frame and deliver the best shape and weight distribution.

Stability

A three wheel buggies-wheeled buggy offers excellent stability, which is why it's an ideal option for off-road walks (especially with an all-terrain or off-road-style seat). They often feature oversized front wheels that can deal well with kerbs and bumps as well as rough terrain. Some even feature a lockable front tire for extra stability on uneven terrain.

It's important to keep in mind that 3 wheel bassinet stroller-wheel buggies can have a lower centre of gravity than models with four wheels, which can mean that they topple over more easily. The most reliable 3-wheeled pushchairs are designed with perfect geometry to ensure they remain steady in any weather. They should be able of turning on a dime and be easy to steer with one hand, and have the front wheel rotate 360o that makes them great for maneuvering and navigating challenging terrain.

For really tricky surfaces, look out for an air-filled model also known as pneumatic tyres. They are designed to handle roads that are not paved and can deal with dirt, gravel, and more. Many all-terrain buggies come with an swivelling wheel at the front that can be locked for added stability when tackling very rough terrain.

A 3-wheel pram is also an excellent option for runners and those who like to walk fast and uphill, especially if you're planning to attach an infant car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is an excellent example. It features the flat-reclining seat, five-point harnesses, and plenty of storage space to keep everything you need (plus an extendable 50+ sun hood). It's compact, lightweight and suitable for babies and can be used with a carrycot or car seat. It can also handle a bit of moderate jogging, but it's not designed for serious joggers.

Weight

If you're looking for a vehicle that can handle difficult terrain then you want one with large wheels. They will be able to handle cobbles, grass and dirt tracks and provide an enjoyable ride for all passengers. They are also great for jogging because they have a suspension built-in and are easy to climb up and down kerbs. However, the drawback is that they are quite heavy to push.

The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheel buggy to use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3 wheel stroller set-wheel buggy is very mobile due to its 16 rear wheels as well as a lockable front wheel. It has air tyres which do need occasional pumping and can hold a child up to the age of 3. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler liked the shape of the seat and found it easy to steer even with her three-year-old child on the seat.

Another great option is the Baby Jogger Versa GT, which has an adjustable handlebar and a high-quality hood with 50+ UV protection. It is also easy to move kerbs upwards and downwards, and can fit into the car's boot space in a small size. It can also be used as a pram that comes with baby car seat for newborns and toddlers.

Sling seats made of fabric fit snugly inside the buggie's frame, as opposed to over it like modular seats. This design has a lower centre of gravity at the right height. It is simpler to push and lighter to kerb-pop (you don't know how many times you will do that as a new parent!).

Seating

The seating capacity of 3 wheel baby strollers wheelers is impressive and there are a variety of different choices to choose from. The carrycot that comes with it is perfect for newborns (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a comfy and cozy lie-flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy). Older babies and toddlers will love the spacious and padded seat unit with adjustable ventilation. The seats are not able to fully recline, but they can be adjusted to the lowest setting. This should still allow your child to have plenty of space and headroom.

A fabric sling is also available. It has the advantage that it is placed within the frame, instead of on top as a seat that is modular. This creates a lower center of gravity, with a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, particularly over bumpy terrain and curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this kind of seat dealt with challenges.

In addition to a big shopping basket, this kind of buggy typically has some quite useful features, such as an extendable 50+ UV hood, an easy to use brake pedal and some game-changing visibility lights that appear from the handlebar and can be placed in front of the occupants to increase their safety when they are tackling difficult terrain.

Storage

The 3-wheeled frame is much more stable and can be pushed with just one hand. It's also better for terrain that is difficult. However, it also means that the shopping basket doesn't hold as much as a 4-wheeler buggy.

A high-quality ATP will come with pneumatic tyres, a padded grip for comfort and excellent suspension. It should be able to accommodate a car seat, so you can use it from birth.

MFM's reviewers have found that the 3-wheeler frame won't pass through all doors in their homes or small car boot - be sure to check the dimensions of the buggy once it's folded before buying in case you're concerned about space.

Choose a 3-wheeler with 2 (or 3!) seats. This is the best option for your future and can save you money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is one of the most well-known. It can be used from day dot as a single buggy, and then converted into twin buggies when your baby begins walking.

Tyres

Air filled tyres have been designed to provide your child with a more comfortable ride by cushioning bumps and uneven surfaces. They are commonly found on pushchairs such as the Phil and Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath found to be "an exceptional ride for my toddler". She also said that the grippy tires of the Phil and Ted's Sport made it simple for her to maneuver around kerbs and other obstacles.

They can be difficult to maintain and will require air pressure topped up regularly. These tyres are more susceptible to punctures, which is why you should always have a repair kit and spare inner tube when you're out and out and about.

PU tyres are typically found on pushchairs as they are less expensive than air-filled tyres but are just as durable. PU tires are easily distinguished by their matte finish and supple feel. They also glide well on smooth and tightly woven surfaces.

If you run your hand over the tyres you can determine if they're rubber or PU. If it feels as if it's sliding, then it's a rubber or PU. You can also verify that your buggy has PU tyres by slipping the tyres onto a clean, flat surface They'll be able to roll easily and fit comfortably in their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres can handle the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. The downside is that the foam may expand and cause your buggy to feel less stable, as it loses its springy quality. Additionally, these types of tyres can frequently be noisy, as they make lots of noise when you turn and navigate your way through the town.
