3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeler is perfect for tackling off-road terrain and provides the most comfortable ride for your infant. Weight

If you're looking for a buggy that can handle difficult terrain then you want one with big wheels. They are designed to tackle grass, cobbles and dirt tracks easily, while still providing a smooth ride. They are also great for jogging as they come with built-in suspension and are able to climb up and down kerbs. However, they're quite heavy to push.

Fabric slings are positioned inside the frame and not on top as modular seats. This design has a lower centre-of-gravity, which is the perfect height. It is simpler to push, and is lighter to kerb-pop (you don't know how many times you'll need to do that as a brand new parent!).

Seating

The seating capacity of 3 wheelers is quite impressive, and there are a number of different options to choose from. The included carrycot plus is ideal for a baby (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a comfortable and cosy lay-flat bed that can be used in and out of the buggy). Older infants and toddlers will love the spacious and padded seat with adjustable ventilation. The seats don't recline completely, but can be lowered to the lowest point. This should allow your child plenty of headroom and space.

A sling seat made of cloth is also available. It is set snugly inside the frame rather than on top like an open-back seat. This gives a lower centre of gravity and perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier and lighter to push especially over bumpy terrain or curbs and MFM reviewer Kath was impressed with the way this type of seat dealt with these obstacles.

In addition to a big shopping basket, this kind of buggy usually has quite useful features, such as an extended 50+ UV hood, an easy to use brake pedal and some games-changing visibility lights that appear from the handlebar and can be placed in front of the passengers to increase their safety when tackling tricky terrain.

MFM's reviewers have found that the 3 wheel buggies-wheeler frame doesn't fit through all the doors of their homes or small car boot - be sure to check the dimensions of the buggy when it's folded before buying for those who are concerned about space.

It's worth looking for 3 wheeled strollers-wheelers that can accommodate 2 (or even 3!) seats once your family grows - these are the most efficient of both and can help you to save money in the future. The iCandy strawberry sport is one of the best of these; it can be used as a single from day dot and later converts to twin buggies when your baby starts walking.

Tyres

These tyres absorb bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's ride more comfortable. They are commonly found on pushchairs such as the Phil and Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath found to offer "an exceptional ride for my toddler". She also mentioned that the grippy tyres of the Phil & Ted's Sport made it easier for her to maneuver around the kerbs and other obstacles.

These tyres can sometimes prove difficult to maintain their inflation and need to be filled regularly. They are also more prone to punctures than foam tyres, so it is essential that you have repair kits, spare inner tube and pump on hand when you are traveling with your buggy.

PU tyres can be found on more pushchairs than the air-filled tyres, yet they are still just as robust. PU tire are easily identifiable by their matte finish and supple feel. They also slide easily on even and tied surfaces.

You can usually discern the difference between air-filled and PU tires by running your hands over them, if it feels hard, then it's made of rubber, If it slides, then it's a PU. You can also confirm that your buggy is fitted with PU tyres simply by sliding the tyres over flat, clean surfaces They'll roll easily and should fit comfortably in their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are commonly used in high-performance buggies and joggers since they are able to cope with the rough terrain that's associated with this type of pushchair. The downside of this is that the foam may shrink and make your buggy feel less stable, since it loses its springy quality. You'll also find that these types of tyres can frequently be noisy, as they create lots of noise when you turn and navigate your way through the town.
