Window Sash Repairs

The sash is an interior frame that moves upwards and downwards in windows that are open. This article will show you how to perform easy repairs to your sash.

Weather Stripping

Wood window sashes add an elegant look to your home and, when properly maintained, they can last for many years. However, they may become damaged or degrade over time due to exposure to elements and wear and tear. The first step in sash window repairs is addressing weather stripping, which is found on both the sash as well as the frame. Soften any putty that has been hardened with a heat gun set to medium and fitted with an shield to block the nozzle. Remove the old sash and keep it in a bag with a label.

Sash Weights

Sash weights can be replaced to improve the performance of your window sash and reduce energy costs. Sash weights are heavy lead or iron cylinders that are enclosed in a concealed cavity and linked to the moveable the sash with a rope.
