Paint

You may be concerned about replacing a broken pane of glass. It's true that replacing a single piece of glass doesn't have to be expensive when you do it on your own. In fact, even a double-pane window can be replaced for only a fraction of the cost of an expert.

First, if you're working on a large window, make sure that it is securely fastened to the frame. This can be made relatively simple and fast using the proper tools and techniques.

When you're ready to start with the removal of the old window pane by prying out the glazing points made of metal that are connected to it. These are basically small metal triangles that function as "nails" that keep the window in place within the frame of wood. They are buried beneath a glaze putty or bead that hardens to an unbreakable wedge that holds the frame securely in place and hides the points.

After you have the old pane removed clean the surrounding frame and wood. Scrape away any paint and sand down the rabbet grooves, where the glazing points were.
