Replacement Upvc Window Handles

The majority of replacement upvc window handles come with everything you need but if the original handle was fitted with screws or pins holding it, these will need to be removed. Take off the "snap-in" cover at the base of your handle.

Espag

Espag handles are a set of multipoint locks that are designed to fit on casement windows such as uPVC or wooden double glazing. The handle has a 7mm square shaft that fits into an internal gearbox that is mounted on the uPVC window. When the handle is turned it triggers a series of locks around the window's perimeter. Espag handles, also referred to as shootbolts, give more security than the single point lock that is found on older frames.

Cockspur

Cockspur handles are commonly found on older uPVC or aluminum windows. The handle is closed and then turns onto a wedge-shaped plastic receiver catch. (Not to be confused with timber latches, which are also covered in this section.) The handles are lockable or nonlockable. They are available in various nose sizes that can be adapted to the frame.

The handle is locked by the small triangle-shaped spur (spur) that is attached to the frame. They are usually one-way handles, however the deadlock cylinder with a locking mechanism is a possibility to add security.

The replacement cockspur handles are also simple to install. All you need is the correct backset as well as a new set (supplied). The backset is the distance that runs from the baseplate of the window to the underside of the handle's nose. As a general rule Aluminium window frames typically have a backset of 9mm, whereas UPVC employs 21mm. Tilt and Turn

The premium European window style of tilt and turn has been popular in Europe for a long time, however it's only just beginning to gain popularity in the Americas. They combine the benefits of three different window styles into one: tilt, pivot and in-swing. They are great for older homes as they provide more ventilation than standard windows.

When in the closed position tilt and turn windows lock like the normal fixed window. By turning the handle 90@ or 180@ (depending on the type of tilt and turn window) the sash can be opened inward and the window will be tilted into allowing air to circulate through the gap at the top of the frame. This allows you to easily clean the outside of the glass, as you can do it from inside your home. This is a job that can be a risky task.

Tilt-and-turn windows are also secure. They are extremely difficult to open if locked in the closed position. They also feature double seals that prevent rainwater from entering your home when it is in the tilted position or in swing. This feature is especially useful for older homes where intruders tend to target windows which are opened with side hinges.

Spade

There are a few different types of window handles that can be fitted to double glazed windows made of Upvc. There are two kinds of handles: Cockspur and Espag. Other options include tilt and turn handles as well as spade or blade handles as well as monkey tail handles, and various other kinds. The type of handle you choose will depend on your preferences and the type of windows you have.

You need to know how your current handle is attached to the frame in order to choose the right replacement upvc handle.
