Window Sash Repairs

Window sashes must be regularly checked for mold, mildew and damage. You can reduce the cost of repairs in the future by catching the issues in the early stages before they become out of control.

The sash window repair is an interior framing that can be moved vertically upwards or downwards in windows that are open. This article will teach you how to perform easy repairs to your sash.

Weather Stripping

Wood window sashes give an elegant look to your home. If properly maintained, they can last for years. However, they may become damaged or degraded over time due to exposure to elements and normal wear and tear. The first step for sash window repairs is addressing weather stripping. It's found on both the sash and frame. It can cause drafts if worn or loose. Begin by identifying the window's brand and the manufacturer's date (etched on the corner of the glass or the aluminum spacers between panes). Take the sash off, and mark its size and width so that you can get new weather stripping that is compatible with the original.

Then, remove the sash and place it on a work surface so that you can reach all four sides. If your sash has been double-hung, remove the weights with their ropes that should have fallen into the pocket in the jamb lining. After you have removed the sash using the utility knife, remove the weather stripping that was left by hand or with a putty knife.

After the sash has been cleared, you can replace the stoppers that separate the two sashes. These are long pieces that split the sashes. Pam likes to replace these with standard 1/2-inch-by - 3/4-inch window trim from the lumberyard. However, you can also replace them with a piece of scrap wood.

After removing the parting stop and trimming it to length and then apply a thin layer of glazing compound to the bottom of the sash. Sash Hardware

Sash Weights

Sash weights are able to be replaced to enhance the efficiency of your window sash, and also reduce energy costs.
