Style

Bentley's parent company could have Volkswagen roots, but a few decades of experience makes the British maker pretty adept at making their halo-styled coupe appear to be a distinct animal. Bentley Systems, at its 2022 Year in Infrastructure event, unveiled a range of enhanced products that utilize digital twins and cloud-based information to facilitate faster and more precise project delivery.

For example, Bentley's advanced additive manufacturing (AM) system can turn 3D models from CAD into tangible components. The technology has been employed to create everything from on-the-job supported tools for Bentley's manufacturing employees to historical accurate tooling to help restore its iconic wood shop, and the lightweight sanding blocks needed to create Bentley models that were driven in record-breaking times at the Pikes Peak Challenge in America.

The ProjectWise platform was enhanced by adding a variety of new features such as the ability to reuse digital components; a broader capability for civil design reviews and a Drive Simulation to test the potential of a design; and the inclusion of multiple formats for project files to one workspace, which facilitates collaborative review of designs. Bentley also introduced the new Bentley Infrastructure Cloud, a suite of integrated solutions that span the entire infrastructure project lifecycles.

The new solutions include an iTwin Bridge Monitoring solution that utilizes drone video and iTwin Capture to provide real-time bridge inspections as well as the ability to monitor and track the performance of the bridge through IoT sensors that are layered on digital twins; and a Dam Monitoring solution that provides the same access to sensor data. Bentley is also working to integrate its iTwin platform with the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) to assist users meet sustainability requirements.
