World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increases when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, dependent on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is due to the number of perks that must be modified to upgrade an item.

It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can use since PvP is not available at lower levels. Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to buy or sell gear, players can compare the item level. It's a sign of the item's damage and quality. The item level can also be used to compare items when looking at a vendor's inventory.

The item upgrader kit level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are many theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory suggests that the level of an item is calculated using an equation that determines how valuable the stats of an item really are. It takes into consideration the fact that various perks have different value, and also that gems in sockets add to the item's overall value. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzard's actual item level.

However, this is not the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, since the level of the area the item upgrader kit is dropped into can change the value of its stats, such as by adding a level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item are a major part of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon and to motivate players to explore other weapons. The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's level.

The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats of the item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.

Another method to alter the stats on an item upgrading is by affixing it. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to provide items with extra damage, special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs), or to distinguish them by naming them.

All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other rerolling methods.

Players can choose to upgrade an item with specific stats or reroll attaches. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the range, unless it is an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll attachments, or pick which stats to increase. Like base equipment, it will have to be done per item and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players the chance to acquire better gear in earlier waves, and is therefore more valuable in the early game than later ones as most players prioritize more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of the item up to 140.

Furthermore some items, like the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow, can be equipped to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items are available at the store, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are a costly process and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much success rates can be increased and the chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The performance of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of that item. Every item has an initial success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5percent.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
