The iRobot Roomba 980, the most recent of a series of top-of-the-line robot vacuums, is a must for any modern home. This model is extremely powerful suction as well as an HEPA filter that will assist anyone suffering from allergies. It also comes with an extremely powerful battery that can be cleaned for up to two hours, and return to its dock automatically once the bin is full.

It also comes with a feature called smart mapping which uses multiple sensors to help it suss out the areas of your home that need attention and make a tidy path around them. The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on carpets and hard floors. Its score on the low pile carpet was very good and it also scored a high score on mid pile, too. It did a fair job of picking up pet hair, but it had a difficult time with very thick and long pet fur that was stuck together.

It's also not as expensive as other top-of-the-line models. It still has a lot of features that we'd like to see in a top-of-the-line model however, it doesn't come with all the fancy apps or smart home integration you'll find in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba can be set up quickly and is ready to use right away. After taking off the yellow bin insert and battery pull tab from the undercarriage, you simply plug it into an outlet on the wall or to its Home Base docking stations, hit the "Clean button" and let it do its work. It will return to docking station when it runs out of battery or becomes full of trash.
