Its smart-pathing navigation system provides superior maneuverability and its high-pile carpet cleaning mode cleans well, although it is prone to get caught up on rug tassels. Its iHome speaker allows you to control the robot with voice commands.

During our tests, we found that the IQ handled pet hair with ease. It was able to remove the majority of hair on floors that were not bare, and a fair amount of rug with a medium pile. It was less efficient with shag carpets, as it had a hard time reaching dirt and dust that was embedded in the fibers. It did a good job of maneuvering around chair legs and tight spaces as well as the wooden base of an IKEA step stool. It was slower on bare flooring but it was able to recover speed and performed better than other robots we tested.

The IQ is a more suitable option for the majority of users than the iRobot Roomba. It has a bigger dustbin and a longer battery life and is more adept in navigating around obstacles. It has a mopping tool that can remove sticky messes. On the other hand, the iRobot is more durable and has fewer parts that require maintenance or replacement and incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance, and can create virtual no-go zones with its companion app. It can even restart a cleaning session from the point it started if it is unable to recharge its battery prior to finishing the job. The iRobot is also controlled by voice commands, which is an advantage for many users.
